Nephron Pharmaceuticals Corporation is a privately-owned global leader in the manufacturing of generic drug products, over-the-counter (OTC) drug products and medical devices. Nephron's products are sterile, preservative and additive free and proudly made in the USA! We are headquartered in West Columbia, South Carolina. Our location provides the ability to develop new devices and medications including respiratory therapies, ophthalmic, and injectables, for in-house or contract manufacturing opportunities. The facility utilizes completely automated manufacturing, packaging, and distribution systems, in addition to high volume and redundant utility systems, to ensure production system availability. Nephron specializes in Blow-Fill-Seal (BFS) manufacturing, a niche technology that allows a vial of medication to be formed, filled and sealed in a continuous process, in a sterile, enclosed environment and without human intervention.

As an industry leader in product safety and quality, Nephron produces a variety of inhalation solutions, and has distributed over 1 billion doses of respiratory medication per year since 2009. Nephron is currently working on research and development projects that include over 50 new products. The company's longstanding relationships with major drug wholesalers allow us to distribute our products to retail pharmacies, mail order pharmacies, hospitals, home care companies, and long-term care facilities. Nephron has a sales force that covers all fifty states and Puerto Rico, with additional sales channels throughout South America, the Middle East, and Europe. Nephron exists to provide top-quality, affordable medications to everyone.

Position Summary: We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to help lead the financial operations of our highly regulated pharmaceutical company. As the Controller, you will play a crucial role in ensuring compliance with rigorous industry regulations while managing the financial health of the organization. Your expertise in financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and risk management will be essential in driving our company's success in the dynamic pharmaceutical landscape.

Primary Accountabilities:

  • Financial Reporting and Analysis:

  • Oversee the preparation and accuracy of financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP and industry-specific guidelines.

  • Perform rigorous financial analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and potential risks related to the pharmaceutical industry.

  • Coordinate closely with external auditors during financial audits, ensuring compliance with industry-specific requirements.

  • Prepare audit schedules and facilitate responses to auditor inquiries.

  • Regulatory Compliance:

  • Maintain a deep understanding of pharmaceutical industry regulations (FDA, EMA, ICH, etc.) and ensure financial operations align with these regulations.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure financial processes and reporting meet compliance standards.

  • Internal Controls and Risk Management:

  • Establish and monitor robust internal controls to ensure accurate financial transactions and data integrity.

  • Mitigate financial risks by identifying vulnerabilities and implementing appropriate risk management strategies.

  • Cash Flow and Working Capital Management:

  • Manage the company's cash flow and working capital requirements to ensure uninterrupted operations and compliance with financial commitments.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

  • Lead the development of annual budgets and forecasts that consider the unique challenges and opportunities within the pharmaceutical sector.

  • Monitor budget performance, analyze variances, and provide insights to support effective decision-making.

  • Tax Strategy and Planning:

  • Assist tax experts with the development and execution of a tax strategy that aligns with pharmaceutical industry regulations and minimizes tax liability.

  • Assist with Research and Development Tax Credit documentation.

  • Leadership and Team Development:

  • Lead a team of financial professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and development opportunities.

  • Foster a culture of compliance, accuracy, and continuous improvement within the finance team.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (Master's degree or CPA qualification preferred).

  • Substantial experience in financial leadership roles within the pharmaceutical or life sciences industry, with a solid understanding of industry-specific regulations.

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry regulations (FDA, EMA, etc.) and their impact on financial operations.

  • Proficiency in financial software, ERP systems (NetSuite preferred), and data analysis tools.

  • Exceptional analytical skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage complex financial scenarios in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with regulatory agencies, auditors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Proven experience in leading teams and fostering a culture of compliance and excellence.

  • Ethical integrity and commitment to upholding the highest standards of financial and regulatory compliance.

  • 5 - 10+ years experience in management of accounting or finance departments.
