Position Summary:

Under the general supervision of Neff Senior Management, Controller assumes responsibility for the coordination of daily accounting practices and financial management, working closely with all Neff employees to provide efficient and effective use of financial resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Provides Neff Management with timely and accurate financial statements.

  • Directs, supervises, and manages all aspects and areas in accounting including but not limited to payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash receipts and fixed assets.

  • Facilitates with the outside CPA firm the yearend financial review and federal and state tax returns.

  • Manages the commercial insurance quotation process and tracking of claims.

  • Maintenance of accounting records and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk and enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results.

  • Maintains and enforces a documented system of accounting policies and procedures.

  • Manages and serves as administrator for the Neff Benefit 401(k) Plan in conjunction with the Trustee and Third-Party Administrator.

  • Serves on the Neff Compensation Committee and coordinates policy implementation and all calculations relating to both the Sales and Operations Compensation Plans.

  • Assists as directed in any merger and acquisition activity.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • The analytical and creative ability to contribute to the development and evaluation of branch standards, goals, and objectives to prepare reports and interpret policies, procedures, and practices.

  • Excellent organizational skills needed to develop strategic solutions, coordinate project work, and develop and prepare documentation/reports.

  • Computer literacy is required.

  • Ability to initiate, maintain, and develop relationships.

  • Strong customer focus.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or equivalent business experience and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience for a major company or division of a large corporation.

  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant desired, but not required.

  • Excellent Excel, Outlook, and Word knowledge required.

  • Leadership ability to motivate and guide management and staff.

Acting as an active member of the Management Lead Team, the Controller will direct the financial activities by establishing and maintaining effective fiscal procedures and controls, analyzing performance and recommending or directing action needed to maximize the financial return of the facility to the division and the corporation. This position reports to the General Manager for the Indianapolis Retail facility and dotted line reporting to a Regional or Area Controller within International Paper's North American Container business. Key Accountabilities: * Ensure the facility maintains accurate records in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Ensure that the business is conducted in compliance with established division and corporate policies, procedures, and practices. * Determine that the assets of the plant are properly managed and protected. Establish procedures and ensure that an adequate system of internal controls exists for the plant. * Direct the preparation and analysis of operating results, operating trends, capital projects, special projects, and operating forecasts in order to contribute to the achievement of management objectives. * Direct the preparation and analysis of the annual operating, strategic plan, and capital plan in conjunction with other plant management members. * Accountable for timely communication with the Division/Segment finance organization regarding internal controls, reporting, and business analysis to keep information flowing to all management levels. * Supervise staff on day-to-day accounting functions and applicable analytical work. Develop qualified financial personnel for the company by providing guidance, supervision, and training for the financial organization. Qualifications: * 7-10 years of accounting, finance, and managerial experience; work experience in a manufacturing facility highly desirable. Corrugated, folding carton, packaging, and/or related finance experience in a manufacturing environment a plus. * BS/BA in accounting, finance, business, or related field required; CPA a plus. * Demonstrated knowledge of general business management principles, internal financial management, and industry business practices. * Strong knowledge and application of financial concepts, standard costing concepts, forecasting, budgeting, and performance reporting against forecasts and budgets, internal controls, purchasing, and other accounting functions. * Demonstrated ability to work with a variety of functional areas (sales, marketing, manufacturing, customer service, logistics, etc.) within the organization. * Must possess a proven track record of managing a team of accounting professionals in a team environment. Must be comfortable leading/managing a team of accounting professionals on a day-to-day basis, but equally adept at working closely with internal stakeholders. High level of managerial courage and informing skills. * Deliver solutions on a quick-time basis; make decisions quickly with good follow through skills. Provide the necessary analysis to support and drive a profitable operation. Expert level knowledge of Excel and other accounting software. * Remain flexible and adapt to the situation and provide either leadership or follow instructions and work independently. * Ability to handle pressure and stress. Willingness and ability to work overtime, irregular hours, or travel as required. * Ability to handle details accurately and in a timely manner. * Excellent time management/priority setting, organizational, presentation, and communication skills.
