Controller

Principal Responsibilities: We are a nonprofit organization on the south shore of Long Island seeking an experienced Controller to manage the accounting department.

This position will have primary day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, and managing all financial-related activities within our organization. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills, a record of successful financial management, an understanding of back-office operations, and the ability to build trusting relationships with staff, volunteers, and philanthropic supporters. Minimum Qualifications:

Knowledge and Skills Requirements: Experience in financial forecasting. Knowledge of internal controls, cash management, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

Knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and cash flow projections. Ability to coordinate and direct budgeting and financial planning.

Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance. Responsible for developing and managing departmental and agency budgets with the CEO and other Department Heads. Distribute departmental financial reports internally and work with department personnel to analyze variances.

Prepare presentation materials for Audit Committees and Board. Board-level experience (volunteer or other) interacting with lay leadership. Strong interpersonal skills, able to communicate and manage at all levels of the organization.

Strong problem-solving skills with sound judgment. Demonstrated leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills in a not-for-profit and/or for-profit environment. Analyze and interpret financial data and recommend changes to improve systems and financial performance.
