InStride is looking for an experienced Controller to join our high-performing finance team. The Controller will lead the accounting, tax, and billing functions and will be responsible for the production of high-quality, financial statements in accordance with US GAAP, the timely and accurate submission of the Company's tax filings, and the timely billing and collection of customer payments. The Controller will also be responsible for protecting InStride's assets, and driving the successful design, implementation, and management of the financial infrastructure (policies, processes, systems, controls, etc.) required to align to best operating practices and that enable InStride's rapid growth and expansion.
This position is highly visible and requires a strong leader with acute accounting knowledge and the ability to prioritize, plan, influence, and implement in a fast-paced environment. The Controller requires a positive and continuous improvement mentality, as well as a willingness to take ownership and actively partner with other key collaborators to inspire change. Day-to-day management, development, and support of the accounting team
Manage the monthly financial close process including the production and management of accurate, US GAAP compliant financial statements
Lead the annual audit process including partnership and engagement with InStride's external auditors
Lead all tax reporting, filing, and compliance initiatives including partnering with InStride's external tax advisors
Ensure the timely and accurate billing of customer invoices, and the timely collection of customer payments
Prepare and reconcile revenue and cost entries in compliance with internal accounting policies and US GAAP
Establish policies, procedures, and proactive monitoring processes to effectively protect the Company's assets
Lead and provide day-to-day management and support of the internal audit function
Create and manage financial and accounting systems, processes, and controls that are aligned with best operating practices and that scale with company growth
Periodic support of the Company's equity incentive plan
Proactively seek and provide recommendations to improve existing financial processes, systems, training needs, and resources
Implement best practices and develop, execute, and enforce critical company policies and procedures (i.e., travel policy, purchasing policy, etc.)
Be the point of contact and work cross-functionally with internal and external teams on various accounting, tax, billing, or related issues and workflows
Coordinate with FP&A to assist with budgeting, reporting, and analytical decision support as required
Provide support to the InStride Audit Committee as required
Complete special requests and ad-hoc projects, as needed
10+ years prior work experience in Controllership, Accounting, Finance, or related fields
Demonstrated experience managing, automating, and scaling accounting teams and systems
Deep understanding of current US GAAP standards, including ASC 606 and ASC 350
A track record of strategic collaboration & sophisticated problem-solving with cross-departmental leadership at all levels on a broad range of financial topics & processes
Prior experience leading accounting and tax functions
Experience with NetSuite or similar ERPs
Able to effectively prioritize, meet established goals, and perform in a fast and dynamic environment
Ability to maintain confidentiality of information and exercise good judgment
Excellent interpersonal skills, both written and verbal
Adaptable and comfortable in a growing and flexible company
Meticulous attention to detail and excellent critical thinking
A strong sense of ownership and accountability

Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or requisite relevant experience
Active CPA license
Prior experience in software and/or education is a plus
