About the Role

Govplace is looking for a motivated Controller who has experience in managing the day-to-day accounting operations, inclusive of the month-end closings, preparation of the financial statements, and accountable for the general accounting, payroll, payables, project setup and billing, cost accounting, and cash management. The ideal candidate has experience in Government contracting and must be able to research, analyze, coordinate, develop, and maintain business documentation. They will be responsible for vendor invoices, accounts payable, expense reporting, monthly account reconciliation, recurring and ad-hoc journal entries, and more. The Controller must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, handle multiple tasks simultaneously, manage a highly productive accounting team, and keep pace with a high-volume workload. (Remote work is accepted for this position.)

Responsibilities

  • Foster a strong internal control and compliance environment within the business. Assure adherence to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and federal cost principles.

  • Establish and maintain systems and controls for compliant and efficient accounting and financial reporting. Ensure that operational and design effectiveness of internal controls over financial reporting is maintained.

  • Oversee the activities of the Accounts Receivable function to ensure the accurate and timely management of all Accounts Receivable aging components including billings, cash receipts application, etc. Oversee the activities of the AP function to ensure the accurate and timely processing of accounts payable, purchase orders, employee expense reports, and payroll. Work with the profit centers to effect optimal cash management and controls on credit cards usage, reconciliation, and reporting. Oversee the activities of the GL function to ensure an effective structure is in place.

  • Provide, with the support of finance department leads, guidance and training to Company senior management with respect to accounting policies and technical accounting interpretations.

  • Primary liaison with auditors and financing partners. Coordinate the preparation of annual tax filings.

  • Ensure timely and accurate financial closing and reporting (monthly, quarterly and annual basis). Prepare and distribute reports of profit center results.

  • Perform monthly balance sheet / income statement account analysis and reconciliation.

  • Ensure the Controllership team is fully staffed, trained and appropriately organized to support the business needs. Leverage strengths of the accounting staff and other finance department lead, help to clarify roles and responsibilities and develop and implement training programs in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.

  • Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.

  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.

  • Proactively self-assess efficiency and accuracy of work being performed and recommend modifications to accounting systems and procedures in an effort to achieve continuous improvement.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Accounting Department

  • The Controller must have exceptional leadership abilities, strong operations skills, an in-depth understanding of the federal service and product markets and the service delivery model of the business.

  • They must work collaboratively with the profit centers and corporate functional shared services. This is a true partnership role.

  • He or she must also work effectively across functional and organizational boundaries in managing operations to deliver top line & bottom-line expectations.

  • They must understand, advocate and continue to build the culture resulting in his/her ability to effectively inspire the cross-functional team to deliver superior services.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Preferred Accounting or Finance.

  • 10 years' experience in progressive hands-on accounting and managerial experience.

  • Experience within a government contracting environment.

  • Knowledge of applicable laws, regulations, financial & accounting principles/practices/standards as applied to government contracting environment; e.g., US GAAP, FAR, CAS, DCAA.

  • Functional knowledge and experience in utilizing Microsoft Excel.

  • CPA preferred

Great to Have

  • Experience with Financial Force/Certinia accounting system.

  • Experience with ADP Workforce Now.

  • Superior knowledge of and experience in utilizing software for data extraction and manipulation (e.g., Excel Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and IF functions).
