Our client is a well-established construction contractor, based in the Washington DC Metro Area; searching for a Controller. The Controller will provide accounting expertise while overseeing the performance of a small accounting staff.

This individual should have strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills, the capability and willingness to work with a variety of people at all levels, and the ability to multi-task while maintaining a high level of attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to work closely with multiple entities and projects. Construction industry experience is required.


  • Responsible for the day to day accounting for the organization and monthly financial close and reporting for multiple entities
  • Maintenance of a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
  • Reconciliation of G/L accounts.
  • Oversee the operations of the accounting department, including the design of an organizational structure adequate for achieving the department's goals and objectives
  • Review existing accounting functions and procedures and recommend improvements
  • Develop performance measures that support the company's strategic direction
  • Ensure payable, receivable, and payroll functions are performed properly
  • Ensure that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles
  • Work closely with external parties
  • Lead process improvements and integration of tax and statutory reporting functions to achieve optimal efficiency, effective controls quality, maintaining ongoing development, implementation and documentation with all applicable statutory reporting and tax procedures, ensuring that Companys exposure is limited in the event of an audit
  • Work closely with external tax team and Maintain standardized tax return reporting packages across multiple LLC and work closely with external tax professionals to ensure ongoing compliance
  • Ensuring proper accounting of financial relationship between commonly-owned companies is also a priority.
  • Develops and maintains accounting principles, practices and procedures to ensure accurate and timely financial statements
  • Budget and cash flow projections
  • Monthly reporting and analysis
  • Prepare quarterly reports for external lenders
  • Prepare financial statements
  • Additional duties may be assigned


  • Bachelors in Accounting or Finance
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) License preferred
  • 8+ years experience
  • Industry experience in Construction is required; Subcontracting experience is preferred
  • Percentage Complete accounting and Work in Progress reports (WIP)
  • Highly proficient in accounting software applications, including
  • Sage 300, Timberline or other ERP
  • Detail oriented / hands-on involvement in day to day accounting
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

The Senior Program Controller will perform financial analysis and reporting to monitor finances associated with all Company programs. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: (Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position) * Prepares detailed reports of cost estimates, cost variances, cost over and cost under runs * Provides timely and accurate performance data analysis in association with Company and program budgets and address any major deviations taking appropriate action for correction or providing applicable rationale for variances. * Executes assigned tasks and inform the Company PMO, Director of Operations and CAS President of all issues, concerns, problems, as well as recommendations to correct or mitigate. * Prepares and briefs monthly finance reviews to company Director of Operations and President * Conducts interactive and periodic ad hoc budget variance analyses, to ensure the most accurate financial status is available for the company President. * Compiles financial information and analyze cost estimating and financial data processes from both a federal government and company perspective. * Coordinates with the MIOS VP of Finance in analyzing financial and budgetary information. * Represents the company and be conversant with federal procurement officials concerning all program/contract financial requirements. * Examines and reviews cost records and ensures cost data is allocated correctly. * Analyzes financial and budgetary information. * Drafts milestone status reports and earned value management information. * Performs cost estimating, estimates to complete, estimates at completion. * Reconciles obligations, expenditures and contract funding levels; track estimates to complete. * Works with Contracts to initiate 75% Funding letters * Reviews and validates contract awards and mods. Submit documents for approval * Collaborates with contracts on the set up of projects to include set up of charge codes * Prepares budget documents and provide input for future years' budget projections. * Utilizes Adaptive Insights for budget projections * Prepares financial forecasts. * Provides financial data support for proposals and budget processes. * Participates in Contract Kickoff meetings and provides finance related inputs * Tracks invoices and related documentation * Establishes close working relationships with company Program Managers and respective customers and subcontractors on a program by program basis. Master's Degree preferred. * 5 years of experience with a background working within both Federal government accounting and corporate systems, to include CostPoint, Cognos, DELTEK and Adaptive Insights. * Substitution of additional relevant experience for stated qualifications may be considered.
