Corporate Controller

Consolidated Supply Co., a Pacific NW plumbing, hydronic heating, and water works wholesaler, has an opening at our corporate location for an experienced Controller. We've been a family-owned and operated company since 1928. We value serving both our internal and external customers. We are a close-knit bunch of over 400 employees.

Job Description:

This position is responsible for accounting (A/R, A/P, Inventory, Payroll, G/L) and financial analysis and reporting. These duties include: Managing the corporate accounting department, setting policies and procedures to ensure accurate financial reporting and safeguarding of company assets. Knowledge of business administration; financial management; supervisory practices; Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP); budgeting and planning; inventory costing; financial statement review and presentation; audit policies and procedures; treasury management; financial vendor management; internal controls; and taxation. Ability to understand accounting and management information systems and support technology and computer software applications. Ability to prioritize and organize multiple responsibilities; be an effective leader/manager; respond well to adversity and handle conflicts; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; establish and maintain good customer, vendor and staff relations. Ability to speak, read and write English at the level necessary to successfully perform assigned responsibilities.

Also participates as a member of upper management in setting corporate direction and implementing operating strategies.


  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in accounting or finance; advanced degree or CPA/CMA designation or equivalent a plus; 7+ years' experience in accounting and financial management; 5+ years' experience in managing professional and administrative level staff; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and meet set deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Clear verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to delegate and develop staff.

  • Candidates must be a positive, enthusiastic, and energetic team member and leader.

  • Solid Excel skills and ability to master software systems are required.

CURRENT OPPORTUNITY: Controller JOB DESCRIPTION: The Controller position is responsible for the accounting operations of the company, including the production of periodic financial reports, maintenance of an adequate system of accounting records, and a comprehensive set of controls and budgets designed to mitigate risk, enhance the accuracy of the company's reported financial results, and ensure that reported results comply with GAAP. The Controller directs the organization's accounting functions to assist management and other users in making educated economic decisions about the company's future. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES – Staffing: * Oversees the operations of the accounting department. * Trains and develops accounting team to achieve company goals, and provide adequate backup for absences. General Ledger / Financial Reporting: * Ensure compliance with any and all financial and contract reporting requirements for funding, licensing, or regulatory bodies. * Perform budgeting, forecasting financial analysis, cash flow analysis. * Coordinate month-end and year-end closing process. * Prepare and distribute timely and accurate financial statements to senior management, ensure reported results comply with GAAP. * Analyze financial statements to pinpoint potential weak areas. * Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide business leaders. * Provide guidance to management on the financial implications of business decisions. Internal controls & Processes: * Assess business needs relating to productivity, spending, and profitability. * Helps manage company credit risk and consistently follow company procedures. * Ensure accounts payable are paid in a timely, accurate manner. * Confirm proper preparation for all audits. * Implement processes and procedures related to vendor rebate programs to ensure that corporation is receiving rebates due from various vendors as well as from the Co-Op. * Oversee effective internal controls to assure safeguarding of assets and reliability of financial statements. * Establish and monitor systems and controls that verify the integrity of all systems, processes, and data, and enhance the company's value. * Maintain a documented system of accounting policies. * Comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE – Education / Experience: * Requires a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA certification preferred. * 5 years' experience as a Controller, preferably in wholesale/trades distribution environment. * Experience managing a credit/finance department is preferred. * Proven supervisory or management experience, of at least 5 employees for minimum of 3 years. Job Specific Knowledge: * Experience supervising an Accounting office. * Working knowledge of automated financial and accounting reporting systems. * Working knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, sales tax, and cost control principles including GAAP. * Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements, and projections. Skills and Abilities: * Problem-solving and analytical skills. * Proven Negotiating Skills. * Experience working with accounting firms. * Experience working with Banking, Payroll, Benefits, Accounts Payable. * Word and Excel proficiency.
