Job Purpose
The Controller will own all accounting duties for a fast-growing public company. The role will work closely and partner with the Chief Accounting Officer (CAO) in building out a first-class, top-rated accounting team, while she or he conducts, participates, and promotes development for both self and direct reports
Responsibilities (80s of the Position)
Support the CAO in evaluating, formalizing, and implementing accounting policies and procedures
Oversee all related issues and requirements of monthly close & account reconciliations
Coordinate, prepare, analyze and evaluate financial statements for accuracy and validity
Ensure timely availability of information and support necessary for audits
Analyze accounting reports and coordinate with FP&A for dissemination to management
Oversee billing and collection procedures and manage the collection of past due accounts
Provide guidance on technical accounting topics such as revenue recognition, equity, debt, goodwill, purchase price allocations and contingent liabilities
Direct, participate in and verify the taking of full physical inventories and booking appropriate book-to-physical adjustments across the company
Direct supplier payable procedures to ensure accurate and timely processing and recording to the G/L
Manage fixed asset controls, including year-end inventory and procedures to maintain fixed asset records and ledgers
Work closely with HR on payroll processing, ensuring compliance and accuracy with all postings
Inform and advise other functional department heads about the financial aspects of their responsibilities
Assist with Covenant Compliance and other operating data provided to banks on a monthly basis
Work with Company's external auditors on quarterly and annual review of Company financial statements
Work with the tax department in providing all support documents for preparation of applicable federal, state and local tax returns
Assist with strategic planning as it relates to accounting for all M&A activities
Recruit, lead and mentor a high-performing Accounting team that is recognized for its accuracy, timeliness and business insights
Develop policies and procedures to control and coordinate accounting, auditing, budgets, taxes and related activities and records
Develop, establish and administer procedures and systems pertaining to financial matters
Monitor effectiveness of internal controls and adherences to delegation of authority guidelines
Oversee the implementation of the procedures and processes for SOX testing and compliance
Assist IT, Operations and other departmental groups with ensuring that all functionality of ERP is accurate and functioning
Assume leadership of ongoing efforts/processes to analyze and evaluate the performance and profitability of the Company's activities and to streamline these processes where feasible
Recruit, train, supervise and evaluate the accounting staff and plan professional development and training activities
Establish public company operating cadence
Other duties, relevant to the position, shall be assigned as required
Required Experience
Active CPA certification or equivalent required
Bachelor or Master's degree in Accounting or equivalent
15 + years of progressive accounting experience
Background in audit from a major public accounting firm with private and publicly traded clients
Proven success in building and developing a corporate accounting centralized functional team
Experience with a fast paced, high growth company
Demonstration of writing, developing and implementing accounting policies and procedures
Expert level knowledge of SEC reporting for a publicly traded company
Deep understanding of U.S. GAAP and ability to research and understand technical accounting guidance
Ability and skills in writing accounting memos and preparing financial statements
Ability to execute on multiple tasks simultaneously and adhere to strict deadlines in a fast-paced, ever changing environment, with a talent for properly prioritizing tasks and project deliverables
Familiarity and fluency with MS-Excel, NetSuite, and other common financial software platforms
Experience with record gathering and consolidations for regional operations
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels and functional departments of the company
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common financial reports, contracts, and legal documents
Proactive, assertive and possess a creative approach to problem solving
Ability to respond to common inquiries from customers, regulatory agencies, members of the Executive Staff, and other employees and functional leaders
Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusion
