The Controller is responsible for overseeing the day to day accounting functions and financial reporting systems. They coordinate financial analysis and management reporting and take responsibility for providing analyses for product and branch profitability.

Additional responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for effective daily operations of the accounting department. Supervises, develops, and coaches staff accountants. Focus on process improvement of Finance roles, practices and workflow to ensure continual "value add" and maximum effectiveness. Recruit, develop, inspire and retain talented staff. Conduct effective department meetings, 1-on-1 coaching, appraisals and development plans for all staff. Maintain high level of employee engagement, decision making and communication. Keeps Treasurer informed of all department successes, any challenges and additional resource/support needed.

  • Prepare financial analysis for Bank wide projects and requests and reporting on actual versus projections.

  • Participates on project teams to support and drive Bank-wide strategic initiatives.

  • Assist the Treasurer with the monitoring and reporting of the Bank's Interest Rate Sensitivity, Liquidity, and Capital requirements.

  • Assist with planning and the implementation of policies, objectives, and activities of the business in order to ensure continuing operations, to maximize returns on investments, and to increase productivity.

  • Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to compile and keep financial records, using software and core systems that are in place.

  • Assist the Treasurer in implementing new technologies or systems to help efficient data retention and access for financial reporting.

  • Continually growing knowledge and keeping up to date on regulations, accounting standards and Bank policies and assistance with policy maintenance for Investments, Asset and Liability Management, Liquidity, and Capital, etc.

  • Assist with presentations and financial reporting to Bank staff, senior management and the Board of Directors.

  • Responsible for Ad Hoc financial analysis and reporting with the Bank's bond portfolio and interest rate risk function.

  • Assist the Treasurer with the annual budget process as well as budget participants across the Bank.

  • Complete rolling forecasts throughout the year integrating known and anticipated changes.

  • Prepare and present to the Treasurer and/or CFO accurate financial projections and ratios.

  • Analyze and monitor GL activity on a regular basis. Help ensure the integrity of the general ledger.

  • Assist with the preparation of financial information and financial reports to assist outside accountants, internal/external auditors and examiners.

  • Prepare cash flow, liquidity reports, and contingency stress testing reports.

  • Assist in the review of the fixed asset listing of all branches and departments no less than quarterly.

  • Assist the Treasurer with any Bank holding company and subsidiary financial reporting.

  • Ensures employees are aware of and adhere to all banking related laws and regulations. Directly supervises two employees in the Finance Department. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; motivating staff to engage and retain them.

  • Other related duties as assigned by Manager.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A. or B.S.) from four-year College or university; or five to ten years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Other Qualifications:

  • 5-10 years of experience in an Accounting support role.

  • Previous experience managing and developing accounting staff

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles and experience with bank reporting and regulations.

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and tasks in a fast paced environment.

  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Proficiency with multiple computer applications, specifically word processing, spreadsheet, and budgeting software.

  • Ability to perform detail oriented work with a high degree of accuracy.

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and complete work in a timely manner.
