The Role:

As a Control Systems Engineer, you will work in a dynamic team environment to deliver robust automation and process control systems to manufacturing processes. The Control Systems Engineer supports a broad range of process and facilities equipment across three manufacturing areas. The engineer will work closely with the manufacturing team, production engineers, and maintenance team to sustain day-to-day operations and drive continuous improvement. This position will report to the Facilities and Maintenance Manager.

What You'll Do:

  • Develops, recommends, and implements controls solutions and programs that improve the reliability and efficiency of production, utility and facility equipment, reduce maintenance and operating cost (total cost of ownership), and reduce the potential of critical equipment failure.

  • Maintain and support manufacturing equipment via troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, or controls issues.  Assist in cataloguing issues to identify common failure points and resolve.

  • Works with project engineering to ensure maintainability of new and modified installations and to develop a standardization program that influences the selection of materials, equipment and spare parts for future purchases.

  • Manage outside Automation vendors to help drive manufacturing improvements.  Define and integrate controls schemes.

  • Manage outsourced service providers to ensure work is completed as scheduled and incident action items follow-up is completed within agreed upon durations.

  • Ensures new facilities and new process tool installation designs incorporate the latest controls and instrumentation standards and best practices.

  • Technical lead for the design and operations of the facilities control system

  • Support startup and commissioning of all process tool installations and facilities expansion projects

  • Work with development and production teams to generate and prioritize potential improvements for manufacturing defectivity.  Transfer learning that helps drive identified improvements.

  • Generate documentation for intellectual property. Define the capital plan requirements to execute the manufacturing control systems strategy.

  • Support a factory that operates 24x7 by providing night and weekend on call support as needed.

What We Seek:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline, preferably electrical or mechanical, with minimum 1-5 years of Controls Engineer related experience or equivalent years of experience with proven exceptional results.

  • Familiar with statistics and SPC methods.

  • Background in PLC, SQL, Ignition SCADA, MES, and HMI programming.

  • Instrumentation design, specification and operation.

  • Knowledge of mechanical systems design and operation including machine design, hydraulic, pneumatic and electrical systems.

  • Familiarity with prevailing equipment design codes and standards is a plus.

  • In depth knowledge of preventive and predictive maintenance techniques and an in depth understanding of the set up and application of a CMMS program.

  • Proven ability to analyze data and solve problems independently.

  • Flexibility to work in an interdisciplinary technical field.

  • Effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work as part of a team and contribute independently to a rapid changing environment.

  • Capable of managing cross-functional projects.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).  Able to produce trend charts and other graphical displays.

  • The current application environment includes Rockwell/Allen Bradley PLCs (Logix Family), Ignition/Maple HMIs and Fanuc Robots.

  • Flexibility in acceptance of assignments and schedules and ability to deal effectively with changes in priorities.

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision and possess excellent follow up skills.

  • Good problem solving and communication skills as well as a willingness to learn.

  • The ability to troubleshoot complex problems and strong ownership in providing root cause fixes.

  • A team player who can multitask and thrive in a very dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Outstanding Candidates Will Have:

  • Knowledge and experience in Python, SQL Query development, and industrial Ethernet network design would be a plus.

  • Experience with CMP processing and polishing mechanisms a plus.

  • Experience configuring and troubleshooting networking devices such as industrial Ethernet switches, gateways and OPC servers. Configuring and troubleshooting industrial protocols (Common Industrial Protocol - EtherNet/IP, Modbus RTU and TCP/IP, BACnet, and HART Protocol).
