As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk - or Independent Risk Management - provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk. Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.

This Senior Associate role will be responsible for executing on RCSA guidance, engaging with business personnel, and supporting all aspects of day to day execution of the Risk and Control Self-Assessment (RCSA) methodology across Corporate Risk.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Execute on RCSA methodology and deliverables with demonstrated, proven results.

  • Deliver on quality execution of RCSA and its outputs, support the evaluation of risks and controls, and drive continuous improvement, lessons learned and feedback loops within the RCSA execution team to ensure success criteria are met.

  • Support development of working templates, key documentation, playbooks and engagement models.

  • Provide training on RCSA execution methodology to team members and other key stakeholders across the Corporate Risk organization.

  • Deliver on RCSA execution schedules, and participate in planning, tactical meetings, forums and resource forecasts.

  • Possess a strong capability to identify and accurately identify and evaluate risks and controls in a highly regulated business environment.

  • Convey a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.

  • Support (or may lead) RCSA evaluations of risks and controls and facilitate working sessions with business owners.

The successful candidate will work closely with other senior leaders across Corporate Risk, the Control Management organization, and the company in the development and execution of the Company's RCSA methodology.

Successful candidates will be articulate and possess a demonstrated leadership capability; they will be impressive in their interpersonal effectiveness and with regard to their accomplishments. It requires a leader with strong execution skills, influencing, and visioning skills. A key differentiator will be the ability to understand and operate successfully in a complex, heavily matrixed corporate environment.

The role requires an in-depth knowledge of RCSA, risk identification and control evaluation.

Please Note: Control Sr. Associate must be in one of the listed site locations. Position is currently remote; however, Control Sr. Associate will be required to work on site when Wells Fargo returns to standard operating model.

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in risk management or 5+ years of financial services industry experience, of which 3+ years must include direct experience in risk management

Desired Qualifications

  • A BS/BA degree or higher

  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy

Other Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with facilitation of RCSA, risk and control identification and assessment

  • Strong working knowledge and understanding of control monitoring.

  • Experience with implementing enterprise wide risk frameworks and methodologies.

  • Working knowledge of Issue and Exception management.

  • Experience with high-visibility regulatory initiatives and or compliance programs.

  • Successful experience delivering on projects (i.e., regulatory, strategic business initiatives, or top-of-the-house visibility with little flexibility on due dates).

  • Knowledge of one or more Operational Risk Management disciplines such as Regulatory Risk Management, Third-Party, BSA/AML/OFAC, or COSO / G&O.

  • Ability to work effectively with geographically dispersed teams; as well as work in a fast-paced, fluid environment.

  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization and execute in a matrixed environment.

The Business Risk and Control team is responsible for execution of the annual Risk Control Self-Assessment and Risk Assessment Programs for Life Company and Investments Services Company. In addition, the team is responsible for executing the enterprise Risk Inventory Program. Finally, the team is responsible for working with business partners to document their process risk and control inventory (PRCI) which is the foundation for the aforementioned programs. This role will be working from either the San Antonio, Colorado Springs, Phoenix or Tampa Campuses with a Hybrid work schedule.
