This position will have no direct reports.

Reports to the department's Control Equipment Supervisor.

What you will do:

  • The Control Equipment Specialist designs and supervises operation and maintenance of electrical and mechanical instruments and control equipment necessary for the safe and efficient operation of all the various plants on this location.

  • Assisting in programming and making program modifications for computer control systems (includes: Honeywell, Rockwell, Drive systems etc.)

  • Writing specifications for selection of new instrumentation and spare part stock

  • Training Nutrien personnel in the operation and maintenance of computer controlled instrumentation

  • Assisting in the formulation and the subsequent implementation-of the plan for process automation for all operating areas

  • Assisting in preventative maintenance, repairs and installation of equipment associated with the Power Distribution System (includes: Transformers, Main Substation, 230 KV Circuits and Switch Gear, High Voltage Section of the Turbogenerator, 23 KV Switch Houses, Power Lines, and Plant Grounds)

  • Assisting all areas with investigating reasons for equipment failures as requested

  • Assisting in the formulation and subsequent implementation of the OSHA STAR Program

  • Training Nutrien personnel to improve performance and acquaint them with policies and procedures

  • Functioning as a technical adviser and / or a team member to Chemical Plants and Maintenance I/E Teams

  • Inspecting projects, plants, and equipment on a routine basis. This requires moderate exertion to climb ladders, stairs, inclined walkways and to walk on uneven terrain

What you will bring:

  • Associates Degree in related field with 5 years of on-the-job experience, or ten years of on the job experience in instrumentation. Bachelor of Science in related field with two years of control experience, is preferred.

  • The National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) testing is required for all hourly applicants of Nutrien. Applicants must complete this test and meet a minimum of 5 in Graphic Literacy, 5 on Applied Mathematics and 4 on Workplace Documents in order to be considered eligible for employment with Nutrien

  • This position requires a working knowledge of chemical plant operations to effectively apply instrumentation skills to successfully perform the job functions

  • Working knowledge of current process control technology in the areas of servers and networking

  • Knowledge of and experience in the process control networking protocols and hardware

  • Knowledge of software used in the process control environment

  • "Hands-on" experience in design, installation and startup of instrumentation systems is essential.

  • Skills include knowledge of test procedures and test equipment, an understanding of computer control and hardware, familiarization with control logic, and a solid background in electronics

  • This knowledge is best obtained by attending vendor and institutional training schools and seminars and then applying those skills on the job

  • Although this position will not be classified as an Engineer, it will be possible to achieve an Engineer status by passing state certification tests and accrediting job experience

  • "Hands-on" experience in design, installation and startup of electrical systems is essential. Skills include knowledge of test procedures and test equipment, an understanding of the electrical distribution system, motors, infra-red scanning, air conditioning, and a solid background in electronics (this knowledge is best obtained by attending vendor or institutional training schools or seminars and then applying those skills on the job)

  • Must be open to change in a varying work environment like the one you find in the I/E Maintenance Department

This position reports to the Superintendent, Maintenance I/E. What you will do: The primary function of this position is to provide leadership for all technical systems related to process control. This is to include process control networks, physical and virtual server environment, industrial communication protocols, cyber security, and process computers. Support department during Superintendents absence. These activities include, but are not limited to, the following: * Management of the day-to-day operation of the facilities network to include monitoring and maintenance planning * Oversee the day-to-day operation of the facilities process control security, and communication systems, to include: monitoring and maintenance plan * Support of the day-to-day operation of the department during Superintendents absence * Responsible for ensuring that sound procedures are in place and documented on the department web site to recover from a system failure * Provide needed support for process server, process computer activities, and any equipment which resides on the process control network * Manage resources for process control help calls to support the area I/E crews * Govern and support major projects that require process control support and/or integration. This includes, but is not limited to, scheduling, supporting, ordering, to meet process control requirements. * Maintain current documentation for all process control activities using the facilities electronic documentation standard. Also ensure accurate user documentation is available and accurate. * Responsible for overall effective leadership and direction of the Process Control Systems sitewide * Accountable for all Process Control preventive maintenance and repairs throughout the Mine and chemical plants area * Provides leadership for all technical systems related to process control to include network, server, communications, security, and process computers * Accountable for all process-related technical systems at the Aurora, NC facility * Responsible for the design, implementation, and support of network systems, coordinates design and implementation standards, and serves as a technical resource for support of server and process control systems * Supports the day-to-day operation of the department during Superintendents absence * Liable for safety, housekeeping, budget assistance and administration of company policies * Inspects projects, plants, and equipment on a routine basis. This requires moderate exertion to climb ladders, stairs, inclined walkways and to walk on uneven terrain; lifting of moderately heavy parts and equipment may be required. What you will bring: * Minimum requirements for this position are a high school diploma, ten years' experience in troubleshooting and maintaining process control equipment or graduation from an accredited college with a AS degree in process control engineering and a minimum of five years' experience in process control systems. * Preferred education/experience includes ten years' experience in troubleshooting and maintaining process control equipment and graduation from an accredited college with a degree in process control engineering with a concentration in network application, servers, virtual environments and cyber security.
