Have you considered what it may be like to work at Pratt & Whitney? We have a rare opportunity for a talented Control & Diagnostic Systems On-Board Modeling and Estimation Engineer to be based in East Hartford, Connecticut.

Control & Diagnostic Systems (CDS) is a dynamic engineering organization focused on the development and certification of military, commercial and industrial gas turbine engine control, and diagnostic systems. CDS is responsible for all aspects of Pratt & Whitney engine control and diagnostic system development including: requirements analysis & definition, system & software architecture, algorithm design, and product software design, verification & validation. The on-board modeling and estimation discipline designs real-time, embedded engine models and estimators for synthesizing unmeasured engine parameters that are critical for control, diagnostics, performance, and operability. We are involved from concept initiation phase to entry in service and collaborate with various disciplines to ensure that synthesized parameters meet requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop physics-based models of turbo-machinery components by applying principles and methods from thermodynamics, aerodynamics, and heat transfer and integrating component models into an overall engine model.

  • Design and analyze estimation algorithms by applying methods and tools from multi-input multi-output dynamical linear system and estimation theories.

  • Develop statistical models and methods for modeling various uncertainty types and for processing simulation results and data.

  • Implement and simulate models and estimators in engineering computational environments such as Matlab/Simulink.

  • Exhibit great interpersonal skills, and a genuine interest in building upon and growing experience through interactions with experts from other disciplines (Requirements, Performance, Operability, Software, Real-Time Test Hardware, and Verification).

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering with 3 years of experience developing physics-based models, and/or designing and analyzing estimation algorithms.

  • Master's Degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering

  • US Citizen due to government contracts

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in control system design and analysis

  • Experience utilizing detection theory

  • Experience with Numerical Propulsion System Simulation environment

  • Experience applying numerical methods while solving ordinary differential equations

The ability to generate manufacturing drawings from solid models along with checking final drawings from junior team members required. This individual should have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes such as welding, stamping, casting, sheet metal, injection molding and machining. Responsible to perform the following: Creating & Manipulating complex solid models & Creating detailed component and assembly drawings (Prints) Incorporating Development and Production Engineering Changes that affect Bill of Materials and component interfaces. Research and provide documentation for release or revision of highly complex tasks Create engineering markups on existing detail and assembly prints from design requirements and customer input Provide technical leadership to drafters and lower level design analyst effectively teach drafting best practices and thoroughly familiarize drafters and design analysts with applicable standards This includes communicating design definition to internal customers Perform final checks and markups on Cyient produced prints before handoff to customer Interfacing and coordinating with multiple engineering disciplines to promote the exchange of necessary data in support of engine builds, and drawing releases Perform detailed analysis tolerance study stackups of interfacing hardware within assemblies to recommend or verify design compliance with P&W standards Perform design analysis of engineering product definition of highly complex tasks, mainly part models and part prints to Insure accuracy and adherence to standards of Pratt & Whitney product definition GSEM & DRM required to complete the intent of the drawing/task Generate cost (Time) estimates for task Proposals & Schedules Communicate to effect the exchange of ideas and information to improve product quality Ability to produce highly complex integration documents and major assemblies.
