Smiths Detection Inc. is seeking a Summer Intern to support in its Americas in-house legal and contracts department in Edgewood, Maryland. The selected candidate should thrive in a fast-paced, professional work environment with high expectations, significantly diverse and intellectually stimulating assignments, and a collaborative/team-oriented culture.
Duties & Responsibilities
Assist with updating contract repository on SharePoint. This will involve locating contracts and ensuring they are included in the repository in a complete, organized, and easily identifiable fashion.
Review, update as necessary, and maintain working list of company's non-disclosure agreements (NDAs).
Review Smiths NDA playbook. This playbook explains individual contract provisions, their significance, and Smiths contracts language requirements and preferences. The task would be to review the existing document is clear and helpful - from a layperson's perspective - and recommend any changes.
Create a Contractor Performance Assessment Reports (CPARs) repository. A CPAR is a report issued by US Government agencies evaluating their contractors' performance. The task is to create a repository on SharePoint for the CPARs and begin populating it.
Assist with managing company's certificates of insurance (COIs).

The Individual
Qualifications/Requirements:
Degree-track undergraduate or graduate student in Political Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field (willing to consider an individual enrolled in a course to obtain paralegal certificate)
Experience in commercial or government contracts
Strong academic record with coursework in business law or contracts
Desired Characteristics:
Sound communication skills (written and verbal) and outstanding attention to detail
Experience with the Microsoft Office software suite (SharePoint, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.)
Confident, intellectually curious, and interested in both law and business
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Eligibility Requirements:
You must be 18 years or older
You must be willing to work in an office in Edgewood, MD
You must be willing to take and pass a drug test as part of the selection process
You must be willing to submit to a background investigation as part of the selection process
