Solarea Bio is a biotech company in Cambridge, MA pioneering solutions to improve health. Launched at the Illumina Accelerator in 2017, Solarea has built a powerful platform using microbial discovery and genomics to rapidly deliver novel products to aid in the dietary management of ailments derived from chronic inflammation. Solarea Bio is creating a new class of products by unlocking the microbes that naturally colonize healthy foods. Inspired by nature and using computational and experimental approaches, bacteria and fungi are combined with other natural substrates to create functional and specific consortia. Our vision is to create and launch medical food products aiding in the management of health where other products are not sufficient.
We are currently seeking to fill a position in the Discovery team to validate microbial candidates performance for the advancement of novel medical food products. This is a three-month contract role with an anticipated conversion to full-time upon positive evaluation at the end of the contract period. The Senior Research Associate will coordinate and execute the growth of bacterial and fungal strains and identify microbial characteristics to drive the development of novel products. The goal is to assess microbial function in a variety of environments including aerobic and anaerobic conditions and coculture conditions. Additional responsibilities for the role include running established SOPs and general laboratory maintenance.
The ideal candidate will be experienced and proficient in aseptic techniques, growing and characterizing bacteria/fungi, maintaining mammalian tissue culture, and molecular biology/immunological techniques. An ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced and evolving environment exploring novel host-microbial interactions and their relationship to autoimmune and inflammatory diseases.
