The University of Washington's Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP) has an outstanding opportunity for a Contract Specialist on the Contracts team. This position will be part of a unit within the Office of Sponsored Programs dedicated to processing sponsored research related agreements and will report to the Contracts Team Manager.

This position is eligible for telework.

The Contract Specialist negotiates and executes standard research related agreements like confidentiality disclosure (CDA), data use (DUA), and material transfer (MTA) agreements. This individual may also handle pre-clinical trial CDAs, clinical trial amendments, and other agreements or agreement amendments as assigned. The person in this position must be able to analyze, prioritize, and balance a changing workload in a deadline driven working environment.

He/she is expected to conduct any work that falls within the Contract team's overall scope, up to their level of training and signature authority. They may also provide support to other teams during times when high volumes are experienced.

The Contract Specialist will have some prior experience with negotiating and finalizing agreements and should also have some familiarity with copyright law, UW's publication policies, intellectual property rights, and data ownership.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Contract Review and Negotiations - 90%

Reviews and evaluates award terms and conditions for individual agreements.

Collaborates with Department representatives and/or faculty during negotiations.

Negotiates acceptable award terms that are consistent with Federal and State law, University policy, processes and systems; and that are also consistent with originating sponsor or funder requirements.

Maintains current and accurate SAGE central agreement files of record.

Other duties as assigned.

Regulatory and Government Policy- 10%

Stays abreast of the changing regulatory landscape.

Maintains awareness of changes in funder policies and practices.

Evaluates and makes recommendations for changes to policies and processes needed because of changes in regulations or overall funder policies and practices.

Miscellaneous duties as assigned.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor's Degree and three (3) or more years of experience and development of expertise in grant and/or contract administration. Additional experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.

Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

Demonstrated ability to effectively manage a heavy work portfolio with competing priorities.

Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

Attention to detail.

Understanding of roles and responsibilities at a large research university.

Working knowledge of copyright law, publication policy, intellectual property rights, and data ownership.

Strong interpersonal and customer service skills.

A demonstrated capacity to work with and within a diverse community.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Working knowledge of sponsor types and differing sponsor requirements.

Knowledge of federal regulations concerning management of federal assistance funding, including the Uniform Guidance.

Knowledge of federal acquisition processes and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).

Some familiarity with clinical trials.
