This person will be responsible for ensuring best-practice compliance and improvement within Sulzer Pumps Equipment - Americas in the daily process of reviews, exceptions and negotiations of all assigned contracts with the guidance of experienced professionals. As a member of a small legal department, this person will support a diverse team of technical, sales, and project management professionals, providing guidance on contract obligations and associated risks.



  • Analyze, revise, and support negotiation of terms and conditions with customers and suppliers for custom manufactured pump products and related services in accordance with established legal parameters. Interact with internal and external customers throughout the contract review process to develop and maintain good relationships.

  • Participate in weekly cross-functional meetings to communicate agreed requirements in project management and manufacturing processes

  • Assist International Trade Compliance Officer in implementing export control requirements

  • Manage customer disputes, litigation, bankruptcy, and employee, agency, distributor, sales representative, and contractor agreements as assigned

  • Develop and share best practices, work processes, systems and tools, based on experience gained in a portfolio of independent projects

  • Prepare general corporate and commercial legal documents as assigned and perform other administrative functions in support of the business


  • Coordinate and assist in employee training regarding contracts and compliance matters

  • Support, cooperate with, and participate in company-wide LEAN and EHS Management System which includes following all safety, health and environmental policies and procedures. Support and cooperate in company-wide Quality Management effort.

  • Perform other duties as necessary



  • Bachelors' Degree

  • Strong academic record with demonstrated attention to detail

  • 1 year of commercial contracts or negotiation experience preferred

  • Extremely organized, with ability to prioritize, and meet deadlines

  • Display great teamwork and deliver results with strong communication skills

The ideal candidate will have experience reviewing contracts, especially in research, clinical, or intellectual property. A Bachelor's or Master's degree is strongly preferred. KEY FUNCTIONS * Independently performs all functions of a Legal Contract Specialist with substantial experience and skill, as such functions are described by the Position Description. * Performs all functions of a research contract specialist as directed by the Supervisor - Research Agreements (Industry/MTA/Federal & Foundation) and/or the Director - Research Agreements, and in the absence of those individuals, by the Senior Legal Officer – IP/Research or the Managing Legal Officer IP, including communication with faculty and staff concerning MD Anderson's research related transactions, including review, analysis, and negotiation of agreements as appropriate. * Reviews and negotiates research related contracts that may include sponsored/supported research agreements (including clinical study agreements, preclinical study agreements, consortium agreements), material transfer agreements, data transfer agreements, federal and foundation contracts, grant agreements and subcontracts, and/or other research related agreements as requested and assures that contractual language complies with applicable state and federal laws, UT System (Regents') rules, and Institutional standards and that the contracts are negotiated and finalized in accordance with UT System and Institutional requirements and procedures. * Maintains up-to-date and accurate records and reports of research contracts processed, and monitors research agreement metrics as requested. Tracks the research agreement process through applicable institutional databases and systems and communicates negotiation status in a proactive, timely and accurate manner. * Assists the Supervisor - Research Agreements (Industry/MTA/Federal & Foundation), the Director - Research Agreements and Senior Legal Officer – IP/Research with implementation of departmental initiatives and process improvements. * Provides guidance and responds to requests from MD Anderson faculty and staff related to research related agreements, processing, and administrative issues in a timely manner. Experience: Four years experience in a private, government or law office environment to include two years in business contracts. May substitute required education degree with additional years of equivalent experience or completed years of college on a one to one basis. QUALIFICATIONS Education Required: Associate's degree in Legal Administration, Business Administration or related field.
