Contract Senior Research Associate: In vitro disease modeling

Job Description

We are looking for a highly-collaborative temporary stem cell biologist with strong interpersonal and communication skills. We are developing new disease models to build advanced drug discovery assays in immune oncology and neurobiology. This position requires meticulous cell culture abilities, excellent communication skills, and will work in a cross-functional team environment supporting multiple projects. The successful candidate will have experience culturing multiple cell types, including immortalized cell lines and human stem cells with different media and culture requirements. Many of our cultures are maintained in an antibiotic free media. Ideally, this individual will also assist with RNA and DNA purification and setting up next generation sequencing runs on our Ion Torrent sequencers.

Education and Experience

Must be a team focused, highly driven, self-directed, and independent research scientist able to develop new ideas into successful research projects.

  • M.S. degree and 1-5 years of experience or a B.S. and 4-9 years of experience required in stem cell, developmental, neurobiology or cell biology or history of developing cellular models in a drug discovery setting.

  • Minimum of one year experience in stem cell biology .

Knowledge/Skills Required

  • Demonstrated competency working with human stem cells in antibiotic free media.

  • Ability to simultaneously culture and maintain multiple cell lines.

  • Experience with 3D cell culture and organoids desirable.

  • Experience with standard cell culture techniques including qPCR, immunofluorescence, etc. is desirable.

  • Molecular biology experience is desired but not required. Experience especially with gene editing (CRISPR), use of lentiviral expression, DNA and RNA isolation and use of next generation sequencing is desirable.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with a strong sense of working in a team-centric environment.

  • Able to think creatively and adapt to a fast paced and always changing work environment.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a demanding work environment, highly motivated and ability to work independently with strong problem-solving skills.

  • Proven ability to apply scientific principles to design, execute, and interpret experiments

  • Adept with standard computer applications (MS suite including OneNote, ELN's, etc.)
