We hold leadership positions in Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) and limb-girdle muscular dystrophies (LGMDs), and we currently have more than 40 programs in various stages of development in gene therapy, RNA and gene editing. In 2023, we launched our fourth therapy and the first ever gene therapy to treat Duchenne.

The Importance of the Role

The lab animal technician will collaborate with the Veterinarian Technicians and Vivarium team to support animal welfare within the Gene Therapy Center of Excellence. They will work under guidance of the veterinary technicians to perform treatments and rodent care as required for study and colony management. They will also need to demonstrate proficient technical skills, including multiple site injections, proficient rodent handling, and ability to recognize and identify rodent health concerns. All aspects of this position expose personnel to animal fur and dander.

The Opportunity to Make a Difference

  • Multiple injection techniques including IV, IM, IP, and SQ

  • Assist in monitoring, observing, and performing treatments within the animal facility

  • Following and drafting standard operating procedures for techniques and procedures per GLP guidelines

  • Communicating regularly with Lead study technicians, vivarium manager and vivarium team

  • Maintaining appropriate record keeping per GLP and animal welfare guidelines

  • Operate equipment and use supplies according to safety guidelines.

  • Perform all other related duties as assigned

  • Work on rotating weekend/holiday schedule

More about You

  • LAT, LATG certification preferred or achieve certification status within 6 months

  • 2 to 4 years of related experience in laboratory animal field

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

  • Dexterity of physical condition to operate all job duties; lift and move objects regularly throughout the shift.

  • Work in a standing position requiring bending and stretching of arms and legs throughout regular work shift.

  • Must avoid contact with rodent species outside of work.

This position requires significant animal handling that may result in sensitization to allergens or exacerbate pre-existing allergies. In light of this, Sarepta requests that individuals not apply for this position who have known allergies to rats, mice, or animal dander generally. Individuals with allergies to any of the previously named species of animals may be deemed unsuitable for this job.
