General Description

Under the direction of the Director of Legal, the selected candidate will handle or assist in handling diverse, complex, and challenging matters for several of our business lines, which include Freight Forwarding, Trucking, Truck Brokerage, and Customs Brokerage. Our department is responsible and supports all legal contracts, real estate contracts and procurement, insurance claims administration, and entity compliance for all business lines.

Essential Job Functions

  • Legal: Review, redline and negotiate customer contracts, vendor contracts, agent agreements, non-disclosures, and master service agreements. Manage relationship of outside counsel. Build/Maintain a library of contracts for our various business and entities. Assist in Labor and Employment matters, prepare demand letters for nonpayment, and negotiate settlement agreements

  • Real Estate: Negotiate and review leases, subleases, and amendments. Work with Brokers, Landlords, and outside counsel to settle disputes. Prepare and provide quarterly reports of warehouse values.

  • Insurance: Assist in management of setup and compliance of insurance program. Work with the insurance brokers and underwriters. Actively involved in renewal negotiations, claims management and assistance to the field.

  • Entity Formation: Assist and manage all state and country registrations. Work with local counsel in the setting up of new entities in new countries.

Other Skills & Abilities

  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.

  • Ability to learn quickly and work with minimal supervision.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, Westlaw/Lexis, Outlook and various internet applications.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2-5 years' experience in a law firm or company performing same or similar job functions

Certifications & Licenses

  • Professional certification may be required in some areas.

Physical Requirements

  • Talking, hearing and using hands to operate computer equipment

  • Position may require extended periods of sitting, computer use, standing and walking.

  • Some light lifting may be required in some instances
