The BAE Systems site in York, Pennsylvania supporting Combat Vehicles is seeking a Continuous Improvement (CI) Specialist. In this role, the CI Specialist provides support to the Senior CI Specialist and Manager in planning, training, methodology guidance, communication and coaching skills to promote a culture of continuous improvement. This role will engage employees at all levels to help the lines of business improve quality levels, reduce waste, improve and simplify processes, continually reduce costs, and improve the overall effectiveness of assigned business processes and operations (with a main focus on production floor activities).

The key objective is to support the CI program to drive change that will positively affect the bottom line of the business while delivering optimum performance. The CI Specialist is responsible for facilitating and driving a broad array of CI activities including:

  • Supporting and assisting implementation of the plan for CI;

  • Coach employees in investigating Corrective Action (CAR) events, identifying valid root cause(s), and developing and implementing effective mitigating temporary and permanent process improvements focused on sustained process control;

  • Leading CI activities and projects within the factories that will result in reductions in the true cost of quality;

  • Helping to drive improvement efforts to resolve issues, internal and external, to the QMS to ensure consistent cost, quality and delivery;

  • Serving as a facilitator supporting Quality and CI initiatives and an adviser in generating lower level goals and targets;

  • Facilitating CI efforts among work teams;

  • Supporting efforts to achieve factory quality, cost and delivery metric goals;

  • Driving corrective actions to closure. Identifying errors and root cause and subsequently implementing corrective and preventive actions.

How You Will Do It: 1. Identify gaps in Best Business Practice Metrics (BBP's), and then work with all levels of the plant in establishing and executing a strategy for improving them. 2. Assess the Current state of the plant's Operations; Develop Future State vision and drive and monitor the implementation plan. 3. Coaches CI team, including Plant Staff, Lean Implementers, Black Belts, and Green Belts, to apply correct approach /DMAIC tools for improvement. 4. Establishes C.I. Profit Plan and subsequent Forecast goals; Drives team to achieve. 5. Ensures Process Owner involvement in SOW development and team leadership. 6. Responsible for IDP and succession planning for all C.I. resources, including Lean Implementers and Black Belts. 7. Responsible for developing a "pull' system to replace BBs and LIs with qualified "management-potential'' personnel. 8. Using standard tracking and reporting systems, will prepare detailed plans, drive project performance, and assure timely completion and achievement of product/process quality and savings goals. 9. Assist Plant Manager in any strategic initiative that will help in compliance to standards, implementing new systems, and designing creative solutions that will continuously improve the plant. 14. Is accountable to deliver the plant annual CI goals. 15. Responsible for driving safety performance within the plant to achieve the JCI gold safety status (goal: no recordables or lost time injuries). 16. Perform safety observations/inspections as required. 17. All other tasks as assigned. Requirements: 1. This position requires a Bachelor's degree in related discipline and min 5 years experience. In the absence of a four (4) year degree in an appropriate field of study, a minimum of nine years experience is required. Has demonstrated high-level performance in current and previous positions. 2. Has shown initiative, the desire to drive change and is motivated to exceed expectations. 3. Has solid leadership skills and able to manage both vertically and horizontally 4. Possesses basic statistical knowledge and the ability to apply statistics to product and process improvement projects 5. Possesses basic computer skills (experience with spreadsheet applications would be very helpful). 6. Has sufficient experience within the Company to be able to understand the organization and its business processes. 7. Has at least a certification as a Green Belt, and has received certification as a Lean Implementer. 8.
