The Technical Operations Continuous Improvement Engineer provides technical support as it relates to incident/deviation investigations for all commercialized products at Perrigo facilities within Michigan. This position evaluates product quality through deviation trend analysis to ensure products and processes are consistently produced within their quality attributes. Coordinates the investigation and follow-up processes for assigned site(s) using various analytical tools (FMEA analysis, Ishikawa diagrams, etc.) in collaboration with the appropriate departments, outside suppliers, vendors, and contract manufacturers. The CIE prepares investigations and incident reports and recommends corrective actions as necessary for all product and process issues. This position ensures timely completion of all investigations and corrective actions. Recommends disposition of all involved product to the Quality Unit. Exercises and builds basic team effectiveness skills and collaborates within a work group.


  • Bachelor's degree required - preferably in engineering, chemistry, pharmaceutical sciences or related field.

  • 1-3 years of experience in this field is preferred.

  • Familiarity with cGMP, FDA regulations, including experience with investigations and/or developing and recommending process improvements.

  • Knowledge of principles, concepts and practices in pharmaceutical sciences and manufacturing processes.

  • Well-developed interpersonal, organization and communication skills, ability to work effectively with staff members at all levels, strong technical writing skills, familiarity with cGMP and FDA regulations.

  • Computer literacy with a working knowledge Microsoft Office (Excel and Word), and SAP experience preferred.

  • Ability to work independently on multiple concurrent projects with minimal guidance and to meet project deadlines.

Reporting to the site automation lead, the automation engineer will be responsible for day-to-day system maintenance of all site automation systems as well as performing design and execution of automation projects. Duties and Responsibilities: * Troubleshoot problems and design/implement new features to enhance machine operability, efficiency, safety, and data tracking. Relevant systems include Allen-Bradley (and similar) PLC's and HMI's, SCADA systems, OEM-developed software, I/O subsystems, and drives/servos. * Support engineering and maintenance staff in the design and implementation of control systems associated with equipment used to manufacture and package pharmaceutical products. * Completes project functions within agreed upon time frames and budgets to ensure operations are efficiently maintained and downtime is minimized. Participates in the change management program to evaluate the impact of proposed activities on the validation status of control systems and supports qualification/re-qualification or validation/re-validation activities to insure the validated status of affected control systems. * Maintain automation networks and hardware including servers, switches, firewalls, and wireless infrastructure. Must be able to work closely with IT personnel to support and troubleshoot communications between automation systems and other enterprise-level systems. * Maintain standalone virtual machines and virtual machine servers. * Review and evaluate new equipment and systems to insure compliance with established hardware, software, and design standards. Knowledge, Experience, and Education * Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline and 5 or more years of progressively responsible and relevant work experience. * Experience with computer validation and change management in an FDA/GMP related environment, hands-on knowledge of control system applications including hardware components, and experience and familiarity with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). * Excellent problem-solving skills, sound decision making abilities, and demonstrated ability to meet deadlines in a team-oriented environment. * Demonstrated self-confidence, ability to interface with multiple departments, consultants, and contractors, and ability to work with engineers and maintenance technicians to support control system policies and procedures. * Proficiency in Allen-Bradley PLC programming and hardware design, SCADA systems, control system architectures, communication networks (Ethernet I/P, Profibus, Modbus, etc.), and control system design principles. * Experience with Windows networking, Active Directory, Ethernet I/P communications, and networking components such as managed switches and firewalls. * Experienced in the administration of virtual machines and related management tools. * Working knowledge of AutoCAD software, and the ability to read, understand, and create drawings, flowcharts, schematics, as it relates to control system design documentation. * Comprehensive knowledge of control panel design and electrical controls engineering principles. * Ability to climb stairs, use hands to manipulate basic hand tools/hand-held equipment, and operate a motor vehicle to access various plant locations.
