The Yerkes site in Buffalo, NY is one of two manufacturing locations for the production of Tedlar polyvinyl fluoride film produced by the PhotoVoltaics and Advanced Materials business unit. This business unit is part of the Electronics and Imaging business in the Specialty Products Division within DowDupont. Electronics and Imaging is comprised of high-value global businesses supplying a very broad array of materials to the electronics industry. The Tedlar facilities at Yerkes consist of polymerization units, film casting and numerous converting operations such as surface treatment and roll slitting. The Yerkes site currently manufactures Tedlar film and Corian solid surfaces

This position will be a lead engineer supporting the Tedlar film line. The individual will be responsible for developing and executing engineering solutions to continuously improve process capability in the areas of safety, productivity, reliability, and quality.

Minimum requirements:

  • BS in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering with 8 years previous industrial manufacturing experience. Experience in a film extrusion/casting process is preferred.

  • Experience in developing and executing improvement projects in a 24/7 manufacturing operation

  • Proven ability to drive timely and highly effective results while positively influencing others

  • Strong interpersonal skills to both network and to be an effective team member

  • Solid demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and a high-volume workload with shifting and competing priorities

  • Strong teamwork and organization skills

  • Understanding and demonstrated use of Six Sigma methodology

  • Experience with Process Safety Management

Other desired experience:

  • Previous experience with oriented films

  • Six Sigma Green or Black Belt certified

  • Lean manufacturing experience

  • Hands-on experience with engineering support of a 24/7 film casting or extrusion operation

  • Demonstrated expertise in the application of casting/extrusion equipment including but not limited to melt pumps, screen packs, screw design, die operation and design, gauge control, online thickness measurement, quenching systems, MD and TD stretching

  • Demonstrated expertise in roll formation, winding, and film conveyance technologies

The individual will be responsible for developing and executing engineering solutions to continuously improve process capability in the areas of safety, productivity, reliability, and quality. Minimum requirements: * BS in Mechanical Engineering with 8 years previous film manufacturing experience with a focus on surface treatment, roll handling and slitting.
