We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Continuous Improvement (CI) Leader within our ASI Division.


  • Build and promote a culture of continuous improvement across all values streams.

  • Works closely with mid-level and executive leadership on the Guidance Management Team (GMT) to create a Lean Culture/Road Map by assessing and evaluating opportunities for lean activities.

  • Partners with operation leaders, engineering, quality, supply chain and subject matter experts (SME) to identify, prioritize and implement improvement activities.

  • Lead and facilitate cross functional teams in Kaizen activities designed to foster improvement in Safety, Quality, Delivery and Cost.

  • Responsible for facilitating/coaching, mentoring, and guiding direct reports through the principles of Lean Manufacturing and developing curriculum/training resources used to train Lean Manufacturing - Six Sigma mythologies throughout the organization.

  • Acts as a Sensei in guiding and developing leaders in the correct implementation of TPS/Lean Six Sigma in their areas of responsibility by facilitating Kaizen activities on the factory floor.

  • Coordinate training and act as lead trainer for Lean/Six Sigma events

  • Act as technical expert and Lean Champion to all Kaizen events and Six Sigma projects.

  • Chair the Steering Committee for Manufacturing's Lean/Six Sigma implementation

  • Possesses the communication and technical skills to work with all levels of management in solving complex related process issues.

  • Helps foster improved customer satisfaction by assisting the organization to reduce cost and lead-time while improving quality and service through the use of lean principles.

  • Works closely with Quality teams to identify trends and systematic issues in order to ensure accurate root-cause analysis.

  • Helps ensure the reduction of waste and drive best practices across the organization.

  • Responsible for identifying operational improvement opportunities, quantifying and developing strategies to achieve objectives, and driving implementation of the strategies to execution with solid project management skills.

Ensure initiatives are data driven, prioritized, and carried out in a timely manner.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors in Business Administration or related discipline and nine or more years of progressively complex experience in the project administration field with at least three of those years in project management. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.

  • Nine plus years' experience leading continuous improvement efforts using Lean process methods and tools across multiple functions of the business.

  • Eight plus years' training others in continuous improvement efforts

  • Eight years' project management experience and change management skills

  • Certified lean/six sigma master Black Belt

  • Hands on experience using advanced continuous improvement methods (Lean, TPM, Six Sigma, TQM, DMAIC, VSM, SMED, Standard Work etc.) both as a team member and team leader.

  • Proven track record of leading lean initiatives with substantial positive business results.

  • Strong influencer and team player with good mentoring and coaching skills.

  • U.S. Citizenship Required.

HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL GET TO DO Lehigh Hanson is seeking a qualified Continuous Improvement (CI) Manager for the Competence Center of Materials (CCM) team to support our West Region. The CI Manager can be based in be based in our San Diego, CA or San Ramon, CA offices. Reporting to the Director of Operational Improvement, the CI Manager-West Region, will be one of the leaders of the CI Program. CI (formerly CLIMB) has the goal of achieving a sustainable best in class margin performance in aggregates and asphalt. The CI Manager works with Region leadership, CCM leadership, CCR, MISP and staff at our quarries to identify margin improvement opportunities in our aggregate operations. The CI Manager supports line management with general management skills to deliver best in class performance and realize long-term sustainable savings. The CI Manager will assist in enhancing the technical competence and operational excellence of our organization, in relation to QC and production. This is an excellent development opportunity to gain multi-site management experience, as well as become an essential conduit for the flow of best practices across North America and throughout HeidelbergCement. The CCM team is a conduit for transferring good practice across the organization, not only through establishing practice, but via delivery of Aggregates Academy training and active participation in global best practice calls. * The CI Manager will be responsible for leading the CI improvement process at aggregate and asphalt operations. * He/she will work with local managers to identify QC and production process best practices and then bring awareness of these best practices to other operations. * The CI Manager will become proficient in the technical aspects of QC and production processes, as well as the general management aspects of the business. * They will help to identify new product opportunities, develop benchmarking studies, coordinate peer based site reviews and facilitate improvement discussions with the Plant and Area Management. * They will follow up on improvement opportunities and provide assistance to local management to realize improvement goals. * The CI Manager will become a conduit for transferring best practices across the organization, and deliver training modules in conjunction with the HeidelbergCement Aggregate Academy, including best practice calls. * The CI Manager will have North American (NAM) functional responsibility to lead improvements of a specialist topic. * This high profile position will require travel within the Region/NAM and a commitment to work with multiple levels of management. HERE'S WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR * Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or related field, or at least 8 years of experience in the aggregate or allied industry; or an equivalent combination of both, plus at least 4 years in a direct quarry management role. * Excellent communication and project management skills and the strong desire to work alongside and support our line management with all aspects of CI. * Ability to plan and lead projects that require interfaces with multiple stakeholders and differing levels of management. * Ability to coach and motivate peers without direct lines of authority. * Ability to understand the technical and financial aspects of the business and how they relate to each other, including investment evaluations. * Experience in optimizing processes in quarrying, sand and gravel operations. Ability to diagnose and optimize production steps for blasting, loading & hauling, crushing & screening, loadout, maintenance, extraction and site management. Ability to relate above processes to site geology and commercial markets. * Ability to apply technical recommendations in pragmatic, hands on way to the actual operating environment. * Desire to engage in change management. * Determination to lead our North American operations to a best in class performance. * Ability to think outside the box and to identify best practices and transfer this knowledge across the organization. * Knowledge of Aggflow, AggQC and proficiency in Microsoft Office. * Willingness to travel within Region, on occasion across North America and spend a significant portion of time in an industrial environment.
