The Haring Center for Inclusive Education is seeking a Temporary Continuing Education Specialist to support the activities of a project entitled, "Statewide Inclusion Facilitation" funded as an interagency agreement between UW and OSPI. Continuing Education Specialist responsibilities will include developing relationship with model demonstration sites (i.e., public schools) across the state, provide professional development and coaching to the model demonstration sites, provide professional development to other educators in Washington State, coordinate visits of other educators to the professional development sites, collect evaluation information to determine the effectiveness of the project, and collaborate with other members of the statewide inclusion network.
The Continuing Education Specialist will support the PI of the grant by coordinating and delivering professional development activities for model demonstration sites and other partners. Responsibilities include working with OSPI and other inclusion network partners to identify key areas of need in Washington state, developing appropriate professional development materials and activities, providing training, and coaching, and evaluating the professional development activities. The Continuing Education Specialist must comply with all UW requirements.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintain compliance with and communication OSPI staff
Develop relationships with model demonstration sites
Serve as primary contact for programs and districts participating in the training
Develop materials for inclusion demonstration sites and lead the process of product revision and dissemination
Participate in project meetings
Develop relationships with and collaborate with parents, advocates and professionals in other organizations interested in inclusive education
Manage and coordinate training, coaching, and visitation schedule
Meet and communicate regularly with the PIs about project duties
Contribute ideas and comments to proposals, plans, and other professional development activities
Contribute the results of professional development activities for use in reports, documents, or oral/written presentations
Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by the PIs
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
A master's in special education or related field and at least 3-5 years of experience working with staff and students in inclusive schools
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Knowledge of and experience in providing behavioral support to students with disabilities
Knowledge of and experience in training and coaching special education teachers, general education teachers, and school leaders
Excellent written and verbal interpersonal communication skills
Reliable transportation
Well organized, punctual
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of adult learning
Experience with presentation and delivery of professional development
Experience implementing equity-based inclusion practices in diverse school communities
Experience in consensus building strategies
Experience in secondary education (6-12th grade)
