Job Description

Job Overview:

The Continuing Education Program Coordinator plays a pivotal role in supporting refugee teens as they pursue educational opportunities beyond their initial schooling. The Continuing Education Program Coordinator is responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring programs that empower these students to continue their education and build a strong foundation for their future.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Meet with each student individually to assess their educational needs, including their history, language proficiency, interests, learning preferences, and any challenges they may face to create a personalized educational plan for each student, addressing barriers and fostering a positive learning environment.

  • Identify suitable alternative high school or GED programs for students aged 16 and older who cannot participate in the local public school system and guide students through the enrollment process ensuring they have access to necessary materials and resources.

  • Plan and conduct workshops to help students better understand the college application, scholarship and financial aid application process and assist students in completing applications.

  • Arrange visits to local colleges and universities highlighting available academic programs, extracurricular activities, and student support services.

  • Help clients enroll in job training programs, including internships, apprenticeships, and work-study opportunities at local vocational schools, community colleges, and industry-specific training centers.

  • Maintain comprehensive records of program activities, gather impact stories, and prepare regular reports.

  • Set measurable program goals and collect feedback from students, teachers, and program participants to regularly assess the program's effectiveness and modify the program accordingly.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to create and update the program plan, including developing and maintaining program-related documents, such as program manuals, guidelines, and standard operating procedures to ensure adherence to funding requirements, regulations, and grant terms.

  • Participate in all program meetings, staff development activities, and other duties as assigned.

  • Work as part of a team to provide comprehensive strength-based services to IRC clients through coordination of cases and effective communication between team members and departments.

  • Comply with all policies, procedures, and protocols of the agency and funders, placing importance on client confidentiality.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required, preferably in education, social work, or a related field.

  • 2-5 years in children/youth education or social programs, including program management. Experience with refugees/immigrants or cross-cultural work is a plus.

  • Familiarity with educational systems, college admissions, vocational training programs, and standards for high-quality youth programming.

  • Experience documenting program services and tracking data to monitor against program benchmarks and meet reporting and funder requirements.

  • Strong cross-cultural communication skills, both written and verbal. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural setting and with limited English proficiency speakers. Organized, responsible, and flexible with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Ability to promote an organizational culture reflecting service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Leadership that values collaboration of diverse cultures and perspectives.

  • Fluency in English; bilingual ability in a language spoken by the local refugee population is preferred.

  • Valid driver's license, active insurance policy, reliable transportation, and eligibility to receive a Level 1 fingerprint clearance card.

Working Environment:

  • A combination of standard office environment and 'field' time in and around the service delivery area to perform the above outlined responsibilities.

  • This position may involve occasional evening or weekend work to accommodate participants' schedules.

Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
