Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit

The Office of University Communications is responsible for the strategic management of the University's overall public relations and reputation management activities. The department provides leadership, counsel and services to over 200 communicators across campus and works with those communicators to ensure a unified campus-wide communications strategy.

Areas within University Communications include: Content Development, Executive Communications, Media Relations, Social Media, Visual Production, Issues Management, UNC Creative and the UNC Visitors Center.

Position Summary

Reporting to the director of content strategy, the content specialist will help create compelling content for unc.edu and other websites. Stories, including news stories, features, Q&As and other formats, will focus on topics that help illustrate ideas in the University's strategic plan. In addition, the content specialist will help post and update content on unc.edu and other websites and assist with helping manage various projects that arise in the department.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Strong organizational ability and attention to detail. Excellent project management, follow-through and time-management skills with the ability to effectively and efficiently perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities.

Demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in general research. Strong written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to turn complex and voluminous data into interesting, understandable and digestible forms for use in a variety of platforms, including social media, articles, correspondence, blogs and websites.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Strong organizational capabilities and experience in creating operational plans with demonstrated abilities in managing all details of public and private events.

Excellent project management, follow-through and time-management skills with the ability to superbly perform multiple tasks and balance competing priorities.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work with and effectively communicate to all levels of University administration.

Proven ability to keep information confidential.
