Position Description

Harvard Medical School is seeking a passionate, creative, and agile individual for the role of Content Producer in the Office of Communications and External Relations. Reporting to the Content Strategy Manager, the Content Producer will create content across Harvard Medical School's institutional channels, focusing primarily on HMS social media accounts, which reach millions of followers and play a sizable role in the public perception of the School's brand. The Content Producer is an excellent writer and communicator, with a strong background in developing social media and other multimedia content across a range of mediums, including written copy, audio, video, photography, animation, and graphics.

This position requires a strong command of digital marketing principles and excellent communications skills, with a demonstrated ability to build engaged audiences and align to an overarching content strategy. This is a hybrid position, with the incumbent expected to spend approximately 3 days per week on campus.

Job Responsibilities:

Content Production (75%)

  • Creates and manages posting of a broad array of digital content including, but not limited to, written social media posts; YouTube/Facebook lives; Instagram reels; social media video; and hms.harvard.edu website copy; schedules majority of content in advance.

  • Helps to manage HMS social media presence across platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, Threads, LinkedIn, and YouTube. Supports growth strategies for social media across multiple platforms and supporting HMS initiatives and campaigns. Demonstrates confidence and judgment in representing HMS on digital channels.

  • With the Content Strategy Manager, develops a robust social media calendar and oversees the day- to-day implementation of audience engagement strategies, including curating content and posting/responding on social media channels. Identifies new ways to build and engage with followers across platforms.

  • Develops and maintains deep content knowledge on a range of institutional goals and priorities.

  • Collaborates with colleagues to keep abreast of and cover School news, events, and activities that make for compelling social-first and/or social-only content.

  • Provides social media coverage at events and activities that may occur outside of standard office hours.

  • Contributes to periodically assigned special projects in collaboration with other members of the OCER team.

Analytics and Monitoring (15%)

  • Manages HMS's social listening, staying on top of all references and mentions to HMS across social platforms.

  • Monitors analytics across web, email, and social media channels; creates regular reports and offers insights to inform editorial strategies and content creation.

  • Develops and executes efficient, shared systems to track content creation and inform planning and scheduling of content on a monthly and weekly basis.

Administrative and Process Development (10%)

  • Creates and maintains HMS social media guidelines; serves as the primary point of contact and consultant to dozens of HMS colleagues who manage social media for their departments/centers/programs, sharing guidelines and best practices.

  • Maintains quality and consistency of the HMS brand, acting as a resource for social media managers across the school to ensure that content being published on behalf of HMS is of the highest quality and follows best practices.

  • Other duties as assigned.
