Job Description:

KXTV/ABC10, a TEGNA company, is looking for a Content Manager to lead our day-to-day editorial efforts across Digital and Broadcast. ABC10 is setting the bar on how local content is covered and delivered; we are not a TV station, we are an information network creating engaging content that takes our audience on a journey. We are looking for team members who help our powerful journalism reach a wider audience.

Duties:

  • Manage the "day of" content direction, gathering, presentation and distribution process

  • Focuses on accuracy, fairness and balance in broadcast scripts, digital articles and social content

  • Be a bold voice at the editorial meetings for ABC10's audience based on social listening and metrics ensuring stories are consumed on all platforms

  • Inspire the news team to produce unique content tailoring to each digital and social platform across current and future platforms with storytelling that is optimized for each screen

  • Consistently works throughout the day with content creators and content optimizers to achieve a successful multi-platform experience for our audience

  • In addition, to "day of" content management, this manager is looking ahead to the next day, the next week, etc. for content ideas so ABC10 gets a jump start on impactful news in the community

  • Regularly offer feedback and coaching to team members so they can grow and produce the best content possible

  • Directly manage expectations, duties and schedules for certain team members in the News Department

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communications or related field

  • 2-5 years of management experience preferred

  • Possesses knowledge and experience in journalism and storytelling. Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion ideally in both Digital and Broadcast mediums.

  • Displays in-depth knowledge and understanding of traditional and social media platforms, their respective participants (web, app, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, SnapChat, etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.

  • Experience with audience feedback tools like CrowdTangle, Chartbeat, Google Analytics, etc.

  • Passion and vision for emerging media

  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus

  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events

You will develop and manage all electronic initiatives to support Visit California’s industry communications strategy. You will act as the lead for Visit California’s industry website (industry.VisitCalifornia.com) and industry-facing social media platforms, mass reach emails and newsletters, and development and management of industry-facing apps and microsites.</p> <p>You will develop content for industry-facing digital communications, including recasting consumer and media targeted content for an industry audience.</p> <p>You will work closely with IT, communications, industry relations and marketing departments, so strong communication and organizational skills are necessary. The ideal candidate will also have experience managing online communities and moderating forums. You must have a strong attention to detail and the ability to work under tight deadlines. Occasional travel will be required to manage social media campaigns for Visit California events.</p> <p><strong>Key Responsibilities:</strong></p> <ul> <li>Perform day-to-day content development and maintenance, ensuring accurate, updated information is available for all industry stakeholders.</li> <li>Work with all Visit California departments to inform development of new or updated content.</li> <li>Work closely with Visit California’s technical team and outside vendors to maintain site standards and launch new initiatives.</li> <li>Maintain communications with industry members to gather content for the industry website.</li> <li>Manage production for online graphics, multimedia and other assets for online use.</li> <li>Develop communications strategies and plans for online promotion and outreach around Visit California’s signature events.</li> <li>Design, proof, schedule and deploy all industry mass reach emails.</li> <li>Maintain a strong understanding of tourism industry segments and Visit California’s ecosystem of stakeholders and databases to develop strategic communications deployment plans.</li> <li>Work with creative services team to maintain look and feel of Visit California’s industry-facing websites and digital communications.</li> <li>Serve as project lead on all new initiatives, including setting objectives on ways in which Visit California can successfully reach its stakeholders.</li> <li>Analyze website and social media metrics and develop strategies to better engage industry stakeholders.</li> <li>Stay abreast of trends and emerging technology in the online marketplace and industry, adjusting the communications plan accordingly.</li> <li>Be familiar with the full capabilities of Visit California’s Content Management System to offer streamlined and efficient solutions to digital communications.</li> <li>Serve as primary manager of digital development vendors, including managing day-to-day communications, while tracking budgets, timelines and priorities.</li> <li>Write or edit Visit California communications including special projects.</li> <li>Work with Corporate Content Manager and other resources to ensure consistent publishing schedule and dissemination of relevant content.</li> </ul><p><strong>Requirements</strong></p><p><strong>Key Duties &amp; Responsibilities:</strong></p> <p><strong>40%</strong> -- Develop, manage and implement content for industry digital channels. Input content into various Content Management Systems. Project manage new and ongoing digital development. Work with the Communications Manager to capture and articulate content changes for implementation on industry communications channels. Other general administrative duties for all digital communications.</p> <p><strong>30%</strong> -- Manage email communications with industry and marketing partners. Maintain email editorial calendar, and work with various departments to build send lists, develop and edit content and send communications.</p> <p><strong>15%</strong> -- Work with Communications Manager to develop communications plans around larger company initiatives and events, including incorporation of email, social and web content.</p> <p><strong>10%</strong> -- Develop strategic and tactical plans for industry facing digital communications to support Visit California’s overall industry communications strategy.</p> <p><strong>5%</strong> -- Writing and editing for industry-facing publications, website, digital extensions and social media.<br><br></p><p><strong>Essential Qualifications:</strong></p> <p>To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following qualifications.</p> <ul> <li>Education equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree or higher in communications, marketing, tourism or related field.</li> <li>Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.</li> <li>Excellent writing and editing skills; experience in writing for a variety of audiences and media.</li> <li>A strong customer service focus, with the ability to identify and distinguish unique industry stakeholder segments.</li> <li>Ability and motivation to work in creative ways to expand the boundaries of traditional audience services and take advantage of emerging technologies.</li> <li>Familiarity with HTML.
