KVUE, the TEGNA-owned ABC affiliate in Austin, Texas seeks a dynamic and energetic Investigative Reporter / MSJ to join the leading news team in a dynamic and energetic city consistently voted one of the best places to live in the United States! We are looking for a great storyteller who shows excellent news gathering and writing skills as well as sound news judgment. The ideal candidate is an ethical, trusted journalist who demonstrates strong research capabilities and skill using the latest tools and techniques to produce compelling investigative stories with impact to help make Austin and its surrounding communities even better.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the KVUE Defenders EP and investigative team

  • Enterprise and develop short-term and long-term investigative news projects

  • Contribute to daily and breaking news content

  • Dig into complex and important issues

  • Develop reliable sources and contacts in general and specialized areas of interest

  • Use open records laws and computer assisted reporting skills to find information and data that lend depth and context to your stories

  • Write in an exciting, captivating, and authentic manner for multiple platforms

  • Help with production ideas for data content in on-air and online stories

  • Develop original content through social listening and independent sources

  • Deliver on-air news events in an engaging, exciting, and accurate manner

  • Interview news subjects and research for facts and credibility

  • Shoot and edit while using the latest tools to help tell great stories

  • Use creative production techniques, graphics, and new forms of media

  • Perform other tasks as required by supervisor or executive producer

Requirements:

  • BA/BS in journalism, communication or related field

  • 2-5 years of experience as an investigative journalist

  • Seasoned on-air presence and personality

  • Experience in photojournalism, editing, and content management systems

  • Knowledge of ENPS, Edius and Axis graphics a plus

  • Understanding of the tenants of professional journalism

  • A portfolio with examples of investigative and breaking news reporting

  • Ability to generate creative, engaging, content-driven live shots

  • Strong social media skills, including an active news presence on Twitter and Facebook

  • Organizational skills and the ability to work under constant time pressure deadlines

  • Ability to calmly handle live, breaking news situations and changing events

  • A passion for investigating and telling great stories

Work Environment: Office

Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%

What your days and weeks will include as an Content Manager (Advanced): * Create/update content for business review and approval * Publish and distribute content to applicable sites and systems * Participate as a project team member for key initiatives, attending project meetings as necessary * Meet with business subject matter experts, leaders, project managers and business analysts to gather requirements for content and site creation/maintenance * Analyze business needs, legal and compliance requirements, and business goals as it pertains to published content * Oversee technical aspects of environments, including designing and updating websites and systems to enable easy access and content navigation * Monitor site/system usage and identify opportunities for increased usability based solutions The skills that make you a great fit: * 5 years of related experience * Strong writing skillset including technical writing * Customer experience focus & continuous improvement mindset * Ability to design intuitive user experiences that support complex business requirements * Ability to effectively apply information design and data mapping best practices * Ability to collaborate with various departments including IT, law, compliance and various specialized business areas * Ability to support readiness within large scale BAU (business as usual) and complex strategic projects * Ability to re-prioritize daily work based on customer needs * Ability to work in a team environment or independently with little supervision * Understanding of user experience and interaction design principles * Exceptional attention to detail * Bachelor's Degree in English, Journalism, Communications or Information Design and/or equivalent work experience * Experience with Adobe InDesign and Acrobat Pro, or other form design tools, required * Web publishing tool experience and understanding of HTML code required * Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite required * Technical Writing certification, or equivalent, preferred Target job salary: $58,700 - 102,700 Why Join Us.
