NATURE OF WORK

The Communications Content Creator is responsible for executing creative tactics to increase awareness, visibility, and engagement to advance the mission of NCDOJ.   The Communications Content Creator will enhance NCDOJ's external presence and play a key public service role in educating and engaging the people of North Carolina. The Communications Content Creator keeps consistent, creative, timely information and content about NCDOJ's work and impact flowing across digital platforms, and bolsters communications strategy through additional mediums.

ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK

Manage & Maintain Content for NCDOJ's Social Media Presence:

  • Create and manage the social media for the organization including the primary platforms of Facebook, X (formerly known as Twitter), Instagram, YouTube, and LinkedIn. Engage with constituents online through the social media networks and provide resource support and answers to common questions.

  • Responsible for community management and community building, reading and responding to comments & messages.

  • Create images, video, media, stories, and data, into micro-stories fit for social media.

  • In coordination with Press Secretary and Deputy Press Secretary, schedule and maintain a regular cadence of postings, balancing stories, impacts, alerts, and education.

  • Gather data and metrics of social media platforms for analysis and strategic planning.

  • Performs related work as required.

General Organizational Support:

  • Lead video production from inception through production to launch.

  • Monitor social media trends and best practices, provide ideas for potential new initiatives.

  • Provide live social media coverage for NCDOJ activities such as events, meetings, and presentations.

  • Assist with constituent mail and phone response and other communications or office support activities as assigned.

Provide Ad-hoc Website & Technical Support:

  • Website and blog support as needed.

  • Organize digital assets from events.

Note to Current State Employees:

The salary grade for this position is NC10. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position.  Please detail ALL work history including non-state service experience.  If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY or MAY NOT result.

THE STARTING SALARY FOR A NEW HIRE TO THIS POSITION IS LIMITED TO $40,442 to $48,025. Salary offers for the selected candidate are based on the candidate's education and experience related to the position, as well as our agency budget and equity.

  • Proven success in the social media spaces required.

  • Skills in journalism, editing, and multimedia storytelling are preferred.

  • Comfortable with internet culture, and aware of trends and pitfalls

  • Must be detail-oriented and a self-starter with excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Must be able to work successfully in a fast-paced team environment.

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university, preferably with a major in journalism or English; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Management preferences:

  • Minimum two years of experience in organizational or business social media creation and management is required, or a two-year degree in a communications field with applicable certifications.

  • Proficiency in video editing, graphic design, Adobe environments, and Microsoft Office.

Transcripts:  Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions. A copy of your transcripts indicating the degree received can be uploaded with your application.

Credit for foreign degrees will only be given if verification of degree certification is attached to your application.  Transcripts for foreign degrees have to be evaluated by an organization like World Education Services to determine US equivalency.

Any licenses or certificates must be included in the appropriate section of the application form.

Veterans Preference: Applicants seeking Veteran's Preference must attach a copy of their DD-214 or discharge orders.

Applicants seeking National Guard Preference must attach a NGB 23A (RPAS) if you are a current member of the NC National Guard in good standing.  If you are a former member of the NC National Guard who served for at least 6 years and was discharged under honorable conditions, you must attach either a DD256 or NGB 22.
