As the company's second line of defense, Corporate Risk - or Independent Risk Management - provides independent oversight of risk-taking activities. Independent Risk Management establishes and maintains Wells Fargo's risk management program and provides oversight, including challenges to and independent assessment of, the frontline's execution of its risk management responsibilities. We manage risk according to the Risk Management Framework and ensure all employees understand their individual accountability for managing risk.

Corporate Risk roles depend on a variety of skills, including: Data analysis and synthesis, root cause analysis, change management, process management & execution, risk governance, risk strategy, risk identification & assessment, risk prevention, controls & mitigation, risk monitoring, reporting & escalation, risk systems & technology.

The Merchant Services Independent Risk Management team is responsible for leading, developing and implementing strategic initiatives and processes to drive the company risk culture, appetite, and business performance.

  • Leads risk governance and oversight across the Merchant Services small business segment and/or functions.

  • Leads strategic corporate-wide initiatives and processes, and partners with line of business management to drive the company risk culture, appetite, and business performance.

  • Advises and counsels executive leadership. Monitors, assesses and reports on asset quality, portfolio trends and credit policy exception trends. Approves credit transactions and participates in acquisition due diligence.

  • Assesses and predicts risk and performance.

  • Establishes effective policies, processes, and tools to identify and manage risks.

  • Assist in development of appropriate strategies that ensure risk is within Wells Fargo risk appetite.

  • Develops and implements appropriate risk rating methodologies.

  • Approves and provides credible challenge of line of business credit products, programs, and policies.

  • Leads the execution of programs and policies with a measurable impact on the level of risk taken in credit activities.

  • Develops and implements strategies, programs and policies with a direct and significant impact on credit risk appetite and culture.

  • Ensures resolution of matters requiring attention from outside regulators, Audit, or RAR.

  • Leads implementation of complex initiatives with high risk, generally spanning multiple business lines.

  • Internal partnership with the business and other business units, Audit, Legal, regulators, and industry partners on risk related topics.

  • Leads project/virtual teams and mentors but does not manage other team members.


Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of experience in risk role

  • Experience in establishing effective policies, processes, and tools to identify and manage risks

  • Experience in the development of strategies that ensure risk is within Wells Fargo risk appetite

  • Current and/or recent experience in credit transactions and has participated in acquisition due diligence

  • Ability to predict risk and performance

  • Ability to Automate Decision Processes

  • Ability to translate and summarize complex data into understandable, actionable information and recommendations

Job Description Summary Responsible for contributing to credit portfolio quality and processing of requests for credit extension with extensive focus on credit relationship portfolio management and credit underwriting activities with the relationship management team. Essential Job Functions * May act as a team leader overseeing credit and underwriting activities of other officers to ensure that current and potential customers are properly analyzed to minimize credit losses. Oversees the work of others, including preparation of CRRs/CRMs by training less-experienced credit staff, allocating, and monitoring work. * Supports unit's growth and profitability through underwriting credit requests and proactively monitoring credit portfolio. * Together with Relationship Manager, takes primary responsibility for managing credit needs of a portfolio of 15 or more commercial banking relationships providing consultative underwriting advice, credit analysis and on-gong monitoring of credit products and services to meet customer's needs and minimize credit losses to the Bank. * Develops innovative credit solutions to meet customer/prospect credit needs. * Works closely with other CBG Departments (e.g. Cash Management, Capital Markets, Equipment Leasing, Trade Finance), and other major areas of the Bank to manage the risk of complex financial products and services. * Ensures development and preparation of effective proposals for presentation to existing and potential customers. * Participates, oversees, and assists in the preparation of CRRs, recommending credit facilities by signing final document. Ensures credit facilities and transactions are properly structured, priced, and documented. * Ensures quality control and risk management of relationships managed. Identifies, classifies, and monitors problems or potential problem loans in compliance with the internal credit review policy. Directly, or through credit officers or analysts, tracks and monitors receipt of financial reporting and covenant compliance certificates.
