Maintain and effectively communicate deep scientific knowledge. You will be required to participate in continuous learning to maintain the highest level of technical expertise within the therapeutic area they represent.

This will enable the MSL to answer deep scientific questions and be sought after by customers based on peer-credible knowledge and expertise. This will Result in the MSL establishing themselves as a reliable, trusted, resource of unbiased, accurate, and up-to-date knowledge requested and desired by their customers.

Excel at customer engagement and support medical/scientific information needs of scientific experts. MSLs will spend the majority of their time field based and customer facing engaging in mutually beneficial 2-way dialogues with SEs.

Through the application of EQ and a deep understanding of their customers, MSLs will act as one of the primary interfaces between Lilly and scientific experts to deliver best in class customer experiences. Core to the role is to answer customer questions by providing deep and advanced disease state and product information. Additionally, MSLs connect SEs with other Lilly resources or internal business partners as appropriate and identify possible collaborative research or external collaborations.

Strategic vision and leadership. Synthesize complex data and expertly communicate meaningful clinical insights and unanswered customer questions they receive from SEs to Lilly medical and cross-functional teams.

They use creative problem solving skills and partner with internal resources effectively to deliver solutions. MSLs use a principle based decision-making approach to make decisions independently or escalate them appropriately. They cultivate internal networks and collaborate effectively across functions with an active contribution to medical planning and strategy in the affiliate.

Territory ownership. MSLs will be expected to demonstrate strategic analysis, planning, and prioritization to improve efficiency.

They will implement and evaluate a strategic territory plan, prioritizing core ML activity and take personal accountability for results. The MSL will execute the role in a compliant manner, adhering to all governing internal and external requirements, procedures, and laws, demonstrating good judgment at all times.

Additional Information

  • Field based position requires ability to travel up to 80% and work up to 4 to 6 weekends a year

Basic Qualifications

  • Advanced degree in health sciences (PharmD, MD, PhD in a medically related field) required with 2-3 years of relevant clinical or therapeutic area experience desired. or

  • Masters or Bachelors level degree in health sciences (e.g. BSN, RPh, PA, NP) considered if 5 or more years clinical, research or industry (medical/scientific role) experience in relevant therapeutic area is present.

MEDICAL SCIENCE LIAISON, Women's Health (North East United States) Primary Activities: * Identify appropriate Scientific Leaders (SLs) with input from manager. Develops professional relationships and communicates with assigned SLs to ensure access to medical and scientific information on Merck products and areas of therapeutic interest. Ensures SLs have a medical contact within Merck. * Conduct peer-to-peer scientific discussions and maintain a reliable presence with those SLs to identify needs/opportunities to improve population health in assigned therapeutic area(s); discusses appropriate evidence that can contribute to healthcare solutions * Review headquarters-directed education and training to maintain current knowledge and understanding of dynamic scientific and clinical environment in Merck's areas of interest. * Direct scientific leader inquiries on issues outside of MSL scope of responsibilities (e.g., research, grants) to appropriate Merck resources consistent with applicable policies. * When requested by Merck Research Laboratories (MRL) Global Clinical Development, works to identify potential investigators for consideration for participating in phase II-IV clinical development programs and provide support for sponsored trials. * In response to unsolicited requests from scientific leaders, provide areas of interest and general high-level information regarding the Merck Investigator Study Program (MISP) process. Additionally, when requested by the Global Director Scientific Affairs and Global Center for Scientific Affairs, provide support for the Merck Investigator Study Program (MISP). * Attend scientific and medical meetings. Qualifications Education Minimum Requirement: * MD, DO, PharmD, or PhD Required Experience and Skills: * Five (5)years of clinical (patient care) in Women's Health therapeutic area(s) beyond that obtained in the terminal degree program. May include fellowship, residency, or work experience. * Significant experience in late clinical research (i.e. phase 2 or later) as an investigator or key study personnel in the following relevant study types: outcomes research, company sponsored trials, or investigator initiated trials. Bench top or pre-clinical research experience alone is not sufficient. * Ability to travel up to 50% of the time overnights and reside in the indicated territory. Preferred Experience and Skills: * Two years prior work experience as field facing Medical Liaison, or relevant industry experience * Capable of conducting doctoral level discussions with key scientific leaders * Strong focus on scientific education and dialogue * Business and market knowledge, including quality management. * Excellent interpersonal, communication, and networking skills * A thorough understanding of FDA, OIG, HIPAA and other ethical guidelines, laws, and regulations relevant to the pharmaceutical industry and its customers. * Be able to organize, prioritize, and work effectively in a constantly changing environment. * Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access).
