General Function:

The Senior Consultant is primarily engaged on either customer facing or internal professional services engagements. Sr. Consultants often lead the technical aspects and the development of project deliverables of internal projects (system integration, whitepapers, scalability and performance tests) to a large extent and can lead standard customer engagements of low to high complexity. The position requires an individual to utilize their skills in the consulting methodology, networking concepts, documentation standards and organization, time management, Pomeroy's products and technologies, software installation, and networking skills on internal Consulting Solutions assignments or client engagements. The Senior Consultant must be able to individually solve problems proactively and seek help from more experienced team members or other available sources (i.e. knowledge base, manuals, etc.) when necessary. The position requires a team player that seeks to supplement their skills using project experience, self-study manuals, and point of need training. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are also required.

  • The Sr. Consultant works on internal and customer facing consulting projects of low-to-high complexity with significant responsibilities for completion of entire project sections.

  • Emerges as a significant contributor and leader on project efforts, with the ability to assume responsibility/ownership for entire project components.

  • Grows technical capacity beyond the networking products and underlying technologies.

  • Able to breakdown complex problems into manageable pieces and follow a structured process to resolve them.

  • Holds teammates accountable for their commitments and helps coordinate team activities to ensure task completion.

  • Stays up to date on the latest tools, methods, and measures both within the industry.

  • Proactively, clearly, and openly shares information and ideas with others; asks for, listens to, and uses feedback and input.

  • Talks openly with others, inside and outside of the company, about the things happening at Pomeroy.

  • Prioritizes and focuses on what is most important for their individual deliverables, with consideration for the impact on team deliverables.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to sit; talk or hear, in person and by multi-media; use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate standard office equipment; and reach with hands and arms. Employees are frequently required to walk, stand and move about to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Must have ability to ascend and descend stairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to effectively use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; learn and apply new skills and information; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; and interact with Pomeroy employees, Clients and Vendors. Specific incumbent must maintain composure in a fast paced, high quality environment where personal and team accountabilities are the defining factors.

General office environment

Work is generally sedentary in nature, but may require standing and walking for up to 10% of the time. Work is generally performed within an office environment, with standard office equipment available.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities required:

  • 10 years of relevant network consulting or industry experience.

  • At least 4 years of experience leading implementation teams.

  • A minimum of 2 full life cycle implementations.

  • A willingness to travel 50 - 75% of the time.

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple task assignments.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including presentation skills (MS Visio, MS PowerPoint).

  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment.

  • Eagerness to mentor junior staff.

  • Expert knowledge of TCP/IP protocols, applications, design, and implementation

  • Demonstrated experience with the following configurations:

  • VPC and VSS configurations

  • Routing Protocols (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP)

  • FHRP configurations (VRRP, HSRP, GLBP)

  • Access control mechanisms (ACL, dACL, 802.1x)

  • SDWan (Meraki, Viptella)

  • Strong to Expert knowledge of one or more of the following technical areas:

  • Cisco Firewalls (ASA, FTD)

  • Cisco Identity Management products (ISE, DUO)

  • Cisco Data Center products

  • Cisco Routing / Switching products

  • Minimum certification required: Cisco CCNP and/or CCNA with similar complex work experience.
