Summary of Position:
Foundation Medicine is searching for a talented and motivated Consultant Pathologist (part-time) to support pretesting sample adequacy review in our Cambridge laboratory facility.
This is a part-time position for someone who will be available during the timeframe of 1:00 pm 6:00 pm Monday thru Saturday. Hours and number of days/week are negotiable depending on availability and interest.
Primary Responsibilities and Essential Duties:
Microscopic review of H & E slides of tissue samples submitted for comprehensive genomic profiling and select immunostains.
Match tumor type in sample to standardized disease ontology list based on microscopic evaluation and review of submitted paperwork (including Test Requisition Form and Pathology Report).
Confirm appropriate test platform (FoundationOne or FoundationOne Heme) selected based on disease ontology.
Assess and mark up of H&E slides of samples with suboptimal tumor content for possible enrichment of tumor component.
Adhere to appropriate laboratory operating procedures (SOPs) and work instructions in accordance with state and federal regulations, lab policy, and accreditation and compliance requirements.
Demonstrate understanding of safety issues specific to a CLIA environment.
Adhere to confidentiality (HIPAA) requirements (patient files and personal information).
Education and Credentials:
American Board of Pathology eligible or certified (Anatomic and/or Anatomic and Clinical Pathology) required or at least two (2) years of anatomic pathology training in an ACGME certified residency program.
Anatomic pathology skills to perform specimen adequacy review accurately required.
Molecular pathology, hematopathology, and/or cytopathology experience/skills are an asset.
