Working in an environment that's as complex as it is critical, our Buyer team within Materials and Procurement manages a group of indirect categories, such as real estate, marketing material, supplies or software. We use our in-depth knowledge and experience to develop strategic relationships with external suppliers as well as with key stakeholders. Our role also includes leading contract negotiations, managing risk, driving cost-saving initiatives and implementing strategic sourcing best practices.

This challenging role will:

  • Be a champion for Business User engagement and will be asked to go proactively to our customers, as opposed to waiting for them to come to Procurement

  • Will regularly report on improvements in key commodity metrics of contract performance, cost, quality, product performance, availability and/or service level

  • Set global procurement strategies and oversees implementation within the regions

  • Develop, negotiate and manages large and critical vendor relationships and contracts for Dell

  • Engages with leadership for internal business partner organizations, key stakeholders (Legal, Audit, etc), representatives of supplier diversity councils, etc.

  • Will be a self-starter with a technical background and an ability to influence at all levels of the organization

Requires

Undergraduate degree and 10+ years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience, including 5+ years diversified leadership, planning, communication, organization and people motivation skill (or equivalent experience);

  • Advanced understanding of procurement practices - focus on business process improvement;

  • Advanced knowledge of planning, forecasting techniques, ability to develop and drive budgeting process;

  • Advanced knowledge of sourcing and supply chain networks; network of contacts to call on at manager level

Preference

  • Enterprise-class software procurement expertise, specifically embedded software solutions.

Commodity Management within Materials and Procurement develops and implements plans to support forecasted needs for suppliers or commodities. We use our in-depth knowledge of foreign and domestic markets to negotiate supplier agreements and contracts with optimum pricing and terms. We also harness our understanding of commodity qualities, transportation options, risk management and supply chain evaluation models to develop optimal commodity management strategies. Responsibilities * Knowledge of computer system architecture, and understanding the impacts on overall system design * Very good knowledge of hardware & software technologies, including market dynamics * Develop and utilize Cost Modeling tools along with known market conditions to estimate should be cost when assessing design trade-offs * Develop overall business case recommendations for innovation initiatives by leading and collaborating with x-functional team * Drive cost optimization opportunities in effort to drive down total cost while delivering the mechanical and electrical architecture desired * Analyze and identify potential architectural challenges (NUDDs - New, Unique, Difficult, and Different) through working with SQE, suppliers, etc. * Drive different levels of DFx in an effort to optimize cost and enable challenging design solutions * Pull together product level cost view at Concept phase exit and again at Define Phase exit * Get global procurement alignment on product level views * Attend competitive teardowns and identify opportunities on how we line up to competition, and drive those opportunities into our future generation programs * Program manage advanced engineering, marketing and procurement teams to provide a given set of deliverables and drive to a timeline * Drive cost optimization procurement specific deliverables such as Total Cost Matrix and Cost Bridges * Influence the sourcing strategy by calling out the industry overview, supply chain, cost position and recommendation for Dell management strategy * Understand design elements in mechanical assembly and manufacturing process to identify cost drivers Requirements * Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study * 10 years of experience * ALTERNATE Occupation(s) Acceptable to Meet Experience Requirement: 15 years of experience in the job offered or Supply Chain & Operations Engineering.
