As an Assistant Carpenter / Installer, you will support the lead installer in the construction of Sunroom including wall, window, door, support structures, and roof installation to ensure customer satisfaction.

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent preferred, construction trade school a plus

  • Prior experience in construction and skilled labor involving carpentry, roofing, windows installation, use of a brake as well as hand tools such as utility knife, hammer, deglazing tools, etc.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with customers

  • Math skills including using a tape measure and angles

  • Detail-oriented

Work requires skill in the operation of small to medium equipment, trucks, and farm tractors. <br><br> Work involves performing a wide variety of grounds and parking facility maintenance tasks. Work also involves the operation of small to medium sized tractors and mowers; scheduling or performing preventive maintenance and performing minor repairs. Employees in this class may sometimes be assigned lead responsibilities for specific, periodic crew work. <br><br> Work is performed under the general supervision of an employee of higher grade who reviews work for quality and results obtained. The employee determines which tools are needed to complete the assignment and works as instructed or consults with a supervisor on matters not specifically covered in the original instructions. Additional guidance is provided through Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and guidelines plus Departmental and City of Huntsville policies and procedures. <br><br> Work is reviewed through efficiency, productivity, policy adherence, and observation of work while in progress and upon completion, and through performance evaluations. May perform one or more of the following essential functions: Assists in the construction of athletic fields; prepares playing fields for a number of different sports; drags dirt surfaces; mows fields; lines out boundaries; maintains courts. <br><br> Cuts grass utilizing small to medium power mowers including riding mowers and tractors and performs maintenance on lawns, borders, trees, and shrubs; operates rotary brooms. Assists with simple maintenance and construction tasks related to parking and park facilities; makes minor repairs on fences, tables, and playground equipment; performs minor plumbing, electrical, carpentry, painting, and concrete work; performs high pressure washing of facilities. Performs manual work in the opening and closing of burial sites; collects solid waste; operates small to medium equipment; directs traffic for funerals; digs and pours foundations; may lead funerals; fills, levels, tamps, and reseeds gravesites. <br><br> Collects and disposes of litter, leaves, grass cuttings, deadwood, or fallen trees; operates blowers, truck mounted sweepers, and walk behind vacuums. Performs horticultural work; makes cuttings, pots plants; prepares site for planting; determines needed quantities of planting materials; performs nursery maintenance work; and plants and removes trees. Operates dump, flatbed, brush, and pick-up trucks in picking up and delivering material and supplies from place to place. <br><br> Drives trucks in transporting personnel, tools, fuel, and equipment to and from jobs. Operates a dump bed, fork lift, scooters, sod cutter, various types of tractors, trucks, riding, and push mowers, dirt buggy, tamp, jackhammer, air compressor, pressure washer, ladders, scaffolding, hoses, concrete mixer, chain saw, hatchet, landscape box, tiller, wheel barrel, hand seeder, hydro seeder, straw and back pack blower, grinder, backhoe, and tennis court roller. Performs and schedules preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment; cleans and checks water, grease, oil, and tires; maintains tools and equipment. <br><br> Completes work orders. Performs security checks on facilities. Requires regular and prompt attendance plus the ability to work well with others and work well as a team. <br><br> Runs errands when necessary. Sets up barricades, safety cones, and signs for special events; takes money; directs traffic. Installs tire chains on vehicles during snow and ice. May participate in meetings associated with horticultural projects.</p><p>Physical and Environmental Factors:</p><p>Work is primarily performed outside in and around heavy traffic in sometimes adverse weather conditions. Work exposes the employee to hazards associated with traffic, chemicals, fumes, bees, dust, vibrations from machinery or blasting, and loud noise levels. <br><br> Protective equipment is required such as gloves, orange vests protective eyewear, work shoes or boots and coveralls. Work requires the physical ability to perform heavy and sustained lifting and carrying of equipment, materials, and supplies; physical exertion requiring crawling, pushing and pulling; and standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Work also involves walking on uneven terrain; squatting, bending and stooping; and climbing on and off of machinery.</p><p>Minimum Education, Training and Experience</p><p>Some experience in grounds maintenance or construction work and some experience driving a truck or tractor, or mower; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates the above listed knowledge, skills, and abilities.Some knowledge of the common practices, methods, and materials of maintenance and construction work. Some knowledge of routine grounds maintenance practices. <br><br> Some knowledge of the operation and preventive maintenance requirements of various small to medium sized tractors, trucks and related equipment. Some knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations involved in truck and tractor operations. Some knowledge of playing field maintenance, rules, and regulations that govern the game. <br><br> Some knowledge of the proper safety precautions involved in directing traffic and working in and around heavily congested areas. Ability to cut grass utilizing small to medium power mowers including riding mowers and tractors and perform maintenance on lawns, borders, trees and shrubs. <br><br> Ability to perform simple maintenance and construction tasks. <br><br> Ability to use hand and mechanical tools and equipment. <br><br> Ability to perform manual work in the opening and closing of burial sites.Ability to collect and dispose of litter, leaves, grass cuttings, weeds, dead plant material, or fallen trees. Ability to perform horticultural work, prepare sites for planting, determine needed quantities of supplies and materials, and plant and remove trees, flowers, and shrubs. <br><br> Ability to operate dump, flatbed, brush, and pick-up trucks in picking up and delivering material and supplies, personnel, tools, fuel, and equipment to and from work sites. Ability to operate various tools, equipment, truck and tractors associated with the trade. Ability to perform and schedule preventive maintenance and repairs to equipment. <br><br> Ability to operate trucks and equipment safely in accordance with traffic laws and ordinances.
