Position summary

Our Infrastructure Services division operates three business units: Road Services; Infrastructure Projects and Utilities. As we continue our evolution of growth and innovation, the best people are critical to our success in supporting our customers and catering to market demands.

Downer's Technology & Communications business is contracted to its client to design and construct Australia's High Speed National Broadband Network (NBN) using various technologies. Our MIMA Project Team is looking for a Field Supervisor to join them to deliver works in the Northern NSW region between the areas of Lismore to Grafton.

Our site office is now located in Alstonville, NSW, 2477. If local, a normal working week is available; alternatively we'll consider a 10/4 roster if outside of the region.

You will be responsible for all stakeholder management and direct site relationships within the NBN service area. This includes operational supervision of our construction partners, site works and acting as the public interface for the project. You will ensure that targets for productivity and construction compliance are met in accordance with health, safety, training and quality requirements.


  • Proven track record of managing Construction Partners to meet defined targets

  • Previous Field, Site, Construction Supervisory experience within the NBN or Telecommunications industry

  • Proven ability to coordinate a site with multiple work disciplines

  • Exposure to copper networks, fibre or pipe operations is preferred

  • Civil construction experience desired

  • Sound understanding of productivity requirements for network construction

  • Knowledge of technology and practices, including those of major customers

  • The ability to incorporate innovation into work processes and outputs

Key responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to: * Liaising with builder work area supervisors to manage dependencies, delays, and schedule impacts. * Conducting coordination activities with other work area trades. * Managing formal communications covering status reporting, progress meeting minutes and other formal communications. * Managing and recording effort expended on variations/directions. * Managing contractor performance, where required escalate to the Site Manager any contractor performance issues. * Reviewing all updated and issued drawings and specifications to identify changes and issues affecting Saab works in the target work area. Your experiences and skills * Experience with security/surveillance system design and installation projects or similar system integration projects. * Experience in working with sub-contractors and suppliers as part of an overall security solution delivery. * Ability to effectively interact with engineering design teams, site management teams, subcontractors and construction foreman. * Analytical thinking and problem solving skills, with a high attention to detail * Ability to relate to and effectively communicate with team members, customers and end-users. * Ability to adapt to new tasks, technologies, processes and procedures.
