Position Summary

Marathon Petroleum Company's Mandan Refinery is currently seeking a full-time Maintenance Construction Supervisor role to support its Mandan Refinery and Dickinson Renewable Diesel Facility assets in North Dakota.

The position would be leading projects of all sizes with multiple funding sources that require coordinating contractors, materials, logistics, interfacing with engineering, maintenance, operations, and outside agencies.

This position is located in Mandan, ND and reports to the Turnaround and Construction Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manages the construction portfolio through implementation phase and produces resource-loaded and leveled project schedules. Communicates a 30-90 day lookahead schedule to refinery department leadership.

  • Provides constructability input during gated front-end loading project development (Conceptual, Feasibility, Definition, and Implementation Phases). Reviews proposed designs to advise on constructability issues with adverse impacts.

  • Works with Supply Chain to identify and obtain resources (equipment, materials, and contractors). Reviews contractors' credentials in the established qualification process. Supports material receiving through inspection.

  • Works regularly with project managers, engineers and planners to define construction work package breakdown structure, requirements of work package content, and priority of package development.

  • Develops and executes multi-year strategy for efficiently executing construction activities where multiple projects will be simultaneously occurring.

  • Leads organization that develops project cost estimates, material and fabrication requirements, projects completion dates and evaluates engineering estimates compared to construction control estimates.

  • Manages multiple progress reporting requirements depending on project type.

  • Evaluates work in progress to assure construction and installation of facilities and equipment follow approved detailed design and engineering standards.

  • Conducts productivity analysis to identify and resolve critical variances so projects can achieve established objectives.

  • Maintains accurate and current project documentation necessary to archive and close out a project.

  • Reviews and approves contractor Primavera P6 plans before incorporating them in a master construction schedule.

  • Coordinates with engineering on construction work package splits between TAR (turnaround) and Non-TAR Construction.

  • Supports turnarounds with large project construction scope and oversees field execution for any projects that go into the turnaround phase.

  • Develop synergy contracting strategies for turnaround and construction efforts.

  • Works to implement appropriate turnaround and construction best practices into the construction plan, schedule, and execution of scheduled and emergency refinery outages.

  • Complies with requirements of Marathon turnaround and construction recommended standard processes, procedures and specifications.

  • Establishes and maintains relationships with Marathon corporate construction specialist group.

  • Responsible for overall adequate use of personnel to reduce equipment downtime, improve efficiency, control costs, and anticipate further improvements.

  • Supports area team concepts and cooperative efforts among all refinery groups and departments.

  • Helps develop and support refinery safety initiatives and programs.

  • Assures compliance with all plant safety rules.

  • Assures compliance with environmental regulation, including waste minimization.

Education and Experience

  • High School Diploma/GED required. Bachelor's degree in engineering or construction management is preferred.

  • Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a refinery, petrochemical, or related industry.

  • A minimum 2 years turnaround/construction planning and execution, preferred.

  • Valid driver's license

  • Must have physical ability to perform all essential job duties and work extended hours, including nights and weekends.

  • Must be physically able to access all refinery areas, including use of stairs and/or ladders to inspect crucial process and mechanical equipment.

  • Greater than 30% travel will be required between the two sites with anticipated extended stays at one or the other depending on project status.

  • Authorized to work in the US on a full-time indefinite basis without the need for employment visa sponsorship now or in the future.

Skills:

  • Proactive troubleshooting/problem solving skills.

  • Exhibits strong leadership, communication, results driven, team building and critical thinking skills.

  • Experience and/or knowledge of systems, such as, Primavera, SAP, Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word, etc.

  • Knowledge of industry codes and standards applicable to major capital projects.

  • Able to interpret technical drawings and schematics.
