Job Summary
Kairos Power is seeking a highly motivated Construction Safety Specialist with expertise in the construction safety. As an Environmental Health, and Safety (EHS) Specialist you are a subject matter expert in Construction Safety with primary responsibility for technical and operational implementation of the construction safety program at Kairos Power. You will be part of a team of EHS experts that collaborate in a dynamic setting promoting a culture of safety, sustainability, and environmental responsibility. You will be responsible for developing and implementing safety related programs, assisting with regulatory compliance through auditing efforts, hold employees and contractors accountable in regards to our safety protocols and best practices, all while fostering a safe work environment. The candidate must be open to learning and supporting all aspects of Kairos Power's EHS program.
Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain all aspects of the contractor and construction safety programs.
Team with other EHS professionals to collaborate with cross-functional teams, management, and external agencies to ensure alignment with construction safety related goals.
Directly engage employees by walking the floor and construction sites in an effort to understand workflow and processes while modeling EHS best practices
Manage visitor safety program and deliver safety briefs for tours as needed.
Identify conditions or actions that may cause injury, illness, or property damage. Collaborate to ensure compliance and corrective actions have been implemented.
Participate in Job Hazard Analysis and Hazard Assessment sessions as needed, including identifying when such are needed. Conduct incident investigations as they arise in the field. Determine facts related to an incident based on witness interviews, site inspections, and collection of other facts.
Administer the Permit-work authorization program-Work-Program for all contractors. Update hot work permits, confined space permits, and others as needed to comply with the applicable programs.
Partner with contractor mangers to innovate solutions to prevent heat stress during warmer months and frost bite during the cooler ones.
Partner with procurement and the Construction Projects team to properly vet contractors before we enter a binding contract.
Stay current with all construction related regulations, best practices and standards, and ensure the organization's adherence to all applicable laws including OSHA 29 CFR 1926.
Prepare and submit regulatory reports, permits, and documentation as required.
Conduct internal and external site audits and inspections to monitor compliance and identify areas for improvement.
Ensure contractors accumulate, store, and dispose of waste in a responsible and legal manner
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in safety, occupational health, engineering, or related degree is preferred.
3+ years of experience with EHS and 4+ in the construction industry, preferably with commercial/office building construction or large projects. CHST certification a plus.
Completion of OSHA 510, preferred.
Understands business objectives and how EHS fits into the organization
Ability to respond to urgent/emergent calls, questions or request.
Strong documentation ability to capture incident reports, incident action plans and after-action reports.
Ability to maintain accurate records and assist with data collection/investigations.
Support the development of training content under guidance and coordinate trainings with departments.
Basic knowledge of environmental regulations, codes, and standards.
Ability to work in an agile environment.
Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
Proven track record of teaming for a strong safety culture.
Physical Conditions
Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, etc.
Setting up and transferring temporary structures (e.g. scaffolding, ladders)
Moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces
Remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods
Moving about to accomplish tasks or moving from one worksite to another
Adjusting, moving, transporting, installing, positioning, or removing objects up to 35 pounds in all directions
Operating motor vehicles, heavy equipment or machinery

Environmental Conditions
Ability to work inside and outside where temperatures swing from low 30s to temperatures reaching 100+ degrees.

Manipulating, cleaning and disposal of hazardous materials
Reporting issues with equipment or unsafe conditions
Color identification: detecting, distinguishing, recognizing and identifying colors

Handling of Beryllium (Be)
Certification
Capable of obtaining forklift and boom lift certification
Capable of passing OSHA-30 course
