Construction Plans Examiner I

Examines construction plans for compliance with Florida Building Code, Florida Statutes and County regulations. Reviews various applications and construction plans for compliance with current codes in one of the following categories:

Building, electrical, plumbing, or mechanical. Work is performed within the framework provided by construction codes and Building Division policies while exercising independent judgment under the direction of an administrative superior. Performance is reviewed through oral/written communications, re-examination of plans and within the framework provided by construction codes/Building Division policies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduation from high school or an equivalent recognized certification; minimum of four (4) years of experience in construction work as an Architect, Engineer, Contractor, Inspector, Electrician, Plumber, HVAC Technician or Carpenter in the appropriate trade.

Necessary Special Requirements: Must obtain State of Florida Plans Examiner Certification in one (1) of the following categories: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Structural OR possession of valid certifications from International Code Council (ICC) and/or another state with ability to obtain Florida Provisional Certifications within 120 days, AND one (1) Standard Plan Review Certification within 11 months of hire.

PREFERENCE FOR: Associate's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Technology or related field; experience with construction/building/electrical code compliance or examining construction plans.

Must be able to lift 30 pounds.
