SALARY RANGE: $62,454.00 - $76,048.00 ANNUALLY

BACKGROUND CHECK:

Eligible candidates under final consideration for appointment to positions identified as positions of trust will be required to complete authorization for a Criminal Background Check and/or Fingerprint must be successfully completed.

PROBATION:

All persons, including current City employees, selected for this position must complete a mandatory 6-month probation.

ELIGIBILITY:

Qualified candidates will be considered for vacancies as they arise, for a period of at least six months. The decision of the Director of Human Resources with respect to acceptable minimum qualifications is final.

EDUCATION ACCREDITATION:

Applicants' education must be obtained from an accredited institution. Education credentials obtained out of the US must be evaluated for US equivalency. Evaluation agencies information may be obtained at www.naces.org.

CLASS DESCRIPTION:

A Construction Mechanical Inspector II conducts on-site inspections of complex mechanical installations in new construction or renovation projects for contract and specification compliance. Work involves no supervisory duties or responsibilities.

Incumbents receive general supervision from a technical superior. Employees in this class work a conventional work week, but may be required to work evening, weekend and holiday hours on a 24-hour on-call basis. Work is performed at construction sites where incumbents may encounter dust, mud, noise, heights and inclement weather. Work requires minimal physical exertion.

SELECTION PROCESS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATION

On or before the date of filing the application, each candidate must:

EDUCATION: Have graduated from an accredited high school or possession of a GED certification.

AND

EXPERIENCE: Have five (5) years of experience in mechanical installation, maintenance or inspection work.

OR

EQUIVALENCY (NOTES): Have an equivalent combination of education and experience.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATES:

Applicants must hold a master plumber license issued by the State Board of Plumbing, the Baltimore County Plumbing Board, or the Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission.

AND

Have a valid Maryland Class C Noncommercial driver's license or an equivalent out of state driver's license and eligibility to obtain a Baltimore City driver's permit. PROVISIONAL DRIVER'S LICENSE ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of construction and mechanical installation methods, materials and techniques.

• Knowledge of mechanical codes and standards.

• Knowledge of safety practices and procedures including OSHA rules and regulations.

• Ability to read, interpret and revise drawings and specifications.

• Ability to conduct field investigations and make effective recommendations.

• Mathematic ability.

• Ability to communicate and deal effectively with others.

• Ability to maintain records and write reports.

EXAMINATION PROCESS:
