Position Summary:

The Construction Manager is responsible for paving and concrete construction and improvement projects. The Construction Manager identifies contract worthy projects, consults on project feasibility and project site details, coordinates with construction crews, on a project specific basis performs construction oversight. The incumbent may also prepare job packages and construction estimates, conduct job walks, and meet with bidders, contractors, and governing agencies. The Construction Manager ensures projects are completed per regulatory guidelines, permits and schedule.

This job is also eligible to participate in PG&E's discretionary incentive compensation programs.

This position is hybrid, working from your remote office and your assigned work location based on business need. The assigned work location will be within the PG&E Service Territory.

PG&E is providing the salary range that the company in good faith believes it might pay for this position at the time of the job posting. This compensation range is specific to the locality of the job. The actual salary paid to an individual will be based on multiple factors, including, but not limited to, specific skills, education, licenses or certifications, experience, market value, geographic location, and internal equity. Although we estimate the successful candidate hired into this role will be placed towards the middle or entry point of the range, the decision will be made on a case-by-case basis related to these factors.

A reasonable salary range is:

Bay Area Minimum: $126,000.

Bay Area Maximum: $200,000.

&/OR

California Minimum: $120,000.

California Maximum: $190,000.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Applies broad expertise to work on projects in multiple disciplines such as civil, electrical, process instrumentation and pipeline construction management with a high degree of knowledge and ability.

  • Works closely with Project Managers and Gas Operation Supervisors to understand construction targets and identify potential contractual projects.

  • Compiles and interprets internal drawings and relevant data for the RFP and contract processes, renegotiates contract scope with contractor when needed. Following start of construction, consults and clarifies technical details for contractors, assisting with change orders if needed.

  • Attends job scope walk downs, leads job scope discussions and attends 30/60/90 design reviews by Engineering to provide constructability input. Leads formal job walk downs with Project Managers and/or Gas Operation Supervisors to review the IFC (Issued For Construction) drawings and discuss schedule and target dates.

  • Addresses all communication and project documentation with contractors and conduct meetings at the job site.

  • Monitors daily construction activities and ensures the construction operations meet the program's safety, quality, cost and schedule goals. Utilizes workload management database, updates any assigned projects, reviews workload analysis reports for action, and manages full planning team process from inception via request for contract.

  • Acts as point of contact for construction contractors, ensures the contractor's plan and assigned resources are adequate to deliver the highest value. Obtains any information, resources, services or materials needed to maintain the construction workflow, budget and schedule from Project Coordinator, Engineering, Contracts or other internal PG&E teams.

  • Acts as PG&E Representative in the field. Ensures contractors follow safety plans, project environmental/land permits and PG&E safety rules and processes.

  • Oversees the Inspection of the

construction work. Coordinates the work of field inspectors to ensure adequate coverage of all work performed.

  • Works with Project Managers to establish planning/schedule dates for construction to commence later in the year.

  • Provides mentoring and training to Associate, Career and Senior level employees

Qualifications:

Minimum:

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
  • 7 years of experience in the field of Civil engineering or Civil Construction

Desired:

  • 9 years working experience in the field of Civil Engineering or Civil Construction.

  • Working Knowledge Primavera P6, Unifier, Primavera Contracts Manager, Prolog, Microsoft Office or similar.

  • Demonstrated abilities in Cost accounting / Contract administration.

  • Ability to perform cost and project scheduling.

  • Experience with managing government agency paving and concrete projects

  • Knowledge of unit price contracts
