Summary
Supervises and assists in the work of a small crew in the construction and maintenance of a wide variety of public works projects or jobs.
Essential Functions
Supervise a small work crew; assist construction and maintenance foreman in planning work to be done; maintain time cards;
Estimate materials, manpower, and equipment needs for various projects;
Assist work crews in street maintenance work including sealing cracks, patching holes, repairing paving cuts, and operating salt spreaders during icy weather;
Maintain equipment, and insure that proper tools are brought to each job;
Operate trucks, street sweepers, front end loaders, crackseal machines, or distributor; assist in the setting up of traffic control devices or baricades;
Assist in employee selection, evaluation, and disciplinary activities;
Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma or the equivalent with an additional three years of experience in public works construction and maintenance; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Physical exam required
Valid current Commercial Driver's License
Pipeline Maintenance- Able to obtain Class C Water license and Wastewater II distribution license issued by Texas Commission on Environmental Quality within 3 years of hire.
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Methods and techniques of public works construction and maintenance;
Proper safety practices.
Ability to:
Supervise others;
Estimate material, manpower, and equipment needs for various projects;
Follow oral and written instructions;
Keep simple records;
Read and understand maps and blueprints;
Communicate effectively with others;
Perform construction and maintenance activities related to public works
Physical Requirements:
Frequently lift and carry up to 75 pounds, and occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
Occasionally climb ladders, stairs, and other inclined surfaces
Frequently walk and stand during the shift.
Occasionally bend and kneel during the shift.
Frequently push and pull objects.
Frequently flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially at the knees.
Rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing.
Reach above, at, or below shoulder height.
Frequently coordinate eye, hand, and foot movement in order to operate a vehicle.
