The Construction Install Specialist is part of the Application Engineering team and is responsible for providing support and product review/validation (from an installer perspective) to R&D projects and teams, as well as contribute towards ongoing core business support initiatives. You will be responsible for conducting product knowledge sessions to train R&D on published best practice techniques and product specific installation instructions.

What You'll Do:

Wall construction and product installation to support projects and core business:

  • Utilize work request system (includes alignment on prioritization with stakeholders and sets work request schedule) - report activity biweekly

  • Build Mock-up / Demonstration walls for projects and in support of Trade/Builder shows as required

  • Construct test walls for various testing apparatuses

  • Estimate material quantities based on plan and procure supplies (e.g. lumber, fasteners, tools, consumables...etc.) to support all construction and test activities

  • Assess equipment needs and procure rental equipment as needed to safely complete projects

  • Provide feedback on and help identify key areas for innovation for products, accessories, installation methods…etc

  • Interact, get feedback and train installation crews in the field for different product types, installation methods, tools, accessories…etc.

Testing and installer perspective product validation:

  • Complete ASTM E330 tests, write and file summary reports

  • Support compliance testing at 3rd party external labs

  • Ensure all new products are fit for purpose (from an installer perspective) via constructability and handle ability testing per the project plan - provide critical feedback to project teams

Technical Marketing:

  • Ability to present technical related feedback to the Application Engineering Team to create and help maintain installation / technical literature

Safety:

  • Sustain 5S philosophy inside R&D warehouse (saws area, tool cage/storage, raw material staging area, testing areas, aisle way / entryway to warehouse)

  • Submit weekly safety engagements

  • Complete monthly OSHA mandated training

  • Obtain and maintain forklift operator certification

  • Obtain and maintain crane operator certification

  • Maintain and lead tool training to current and new R&D team members

What You'll Bring:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent

  • 5 or more years of experience in commercial or residential building industry as a framer, siding contractor, or carpenter

  • Broad knowledge of construction tools and practices

  • Strong understanding of construction details (materials, systems, fit and standards for fit and finish)

  • General understanding of IRC/IB Building Codes

Other Skills

  • Knowledgeable of building practices in both residential and commercial segments.

  • Demonstrated knowledge regarding the use of tools and practices of siding applications.

  • Demonstrated organizational and time management skills.

  • Communication skills; timeliness, organized, and high attention to detail.

  • Ability to communicate professionally and ethically with management, customers, employees, trade partners and the general public.

  • Demonstrated ability in problem solving (collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions in a timely basis).

  • Ability to communicate and work with cross functional teams and all levels in the organization.

  • Results-oriented to ensure delivery of appropriate products and services in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion.

  • Demonstrated skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and proprietary software).

  • Sense of urgency and ownership; self-motivated to take on new challenges.

  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the time.
