CMT Engineering Laboratories is currently seeking Construction Inspectors and Technicians to join our team in Phoenix Arizona.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides project construction inspections and/or materials testing support for projects that involve construction activities for transportation, civil, and structural building projects;

  • Inspectors monitor construction operations for compliance with contract provisions, drawings, and specifications;

  • Technicians provide construction materials testing of soils, asphalt, concrete, masonry, structural steel, and other misc. items;

  • Often includes extended hours and may include assignments on projects throughout Central Arizona.

Role Requirements

  • Certifications with ATTI, ACI, ICC, AWS, Nuclear Density Gauge;

  • Proficient in construction inspections;

  • Proficient in specifications and plan interpretation;

  • Possess good mathematical skills;

  • Experience performing independent analysis and problem solving;

  • Demonstrated organizational skills;

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; experience preparing reports that demonstrate technical knowledge;

  • Demonstrated experience working successfully in a team environment;

  • Flexibility to work outside normal business hours as required;

  • A valid driver's license is required;

  • Must pass drug test, physical, background check and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the Company's driving (MVR) policy.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Considerable knowledge of roadway, buildings, structure, construction methods, procedures, practices, plans, specifications; materials used and performance and safety responsibilities related to construction of transportation facilities, civil work and building construction;

  • Knowledge in the use of electronic data processing equipment and contract management software;

  • Knowledge of general inspection and testing principles; safety; and quality control-quality assurance principles;

  • Skill in the use of nuclear density, and materials testing equipment; and

  • Ability to interpret roadway, civil and/or building plans, specifications, and codes.

Physical Demands

  • Lifting of concrete cylinders, wheel barrows and other tools is necessary; Requires the ability to lift 50 pounds;
  • Position may require work in adverse weather conditions, long hours, night shifts, and weekends.

ACCOUNTABILITIES: * Observe civil construction activities in-progress and determine compliance with project plans, details and specifications; recommend acceptance or rejection. * Explain the intent of project plans, details and specifications to contractors and others. * Measure quantities of completed work for payment. * Prepare detailed daily inspection reports. * Assign duties to other inspectors and oversee their performance. * Coordinate with materials field technicians for necessary sampling and testing and evaluate their test results. * Monitor traffic control, storm water runoff protection and other project features for compliance with approved submittals. * Maintain field file of approved submittals and RFI responses. * Communicate regularly with the Construction Manager/Resident Engineer. * Attend and participate in construction meetings; lead meetings as needed. * Monitor the contractor's "red line" drawings and order corrections as necessary. * Track extra work and force accounts. Minimum Qualifications: * High school diploma or GED. College degree is a plus. * 10 years progressively responsible experience as a construction inspector on a variety of civil projects. * Familiar with MAG Standard Specifications and Details. * Ability to read and understand construction plans. * Willingness and ability to work outdoors in a desert environment. * Willingness and ability to work on remote projects. * Fluent in English (spoken and written). Bilingual is a plus. * Ability to qualify for airport security badging. * Applicable ACI, ATTI Certifications. WHO IS DIBBLE CM?
