WSP is currently initiating a search for a Construction Inspector (Terrestrial) to join our Energy Team in Albany/Troy, New York office. The position will be reporting to our project site in Saratoga, New York. Your Impact

  • General Description: To perform detailed construction inspection work as assigned by the responsible project manager or construction manager.

  • Responsibilities:

  • Work is performed in accordance with Site Specific Safety Manual and OSHA standards

  • Review and interpret plans, specifications, codes, shop drawings, submittals, and ensure compliance by contractor.

  • Review and interpret erosion control measures and compliance with environmental regulations.

  • Monitor complex construction schedules and ensure compliance to schedule of all subcontractors by performing weekly coordination meetings and 3-week look ahead updates to insure timely completion of the work.

  • Establish, maintain, monitor and close-out all necessary documentation on project (Owner, Engineer and Contract), including but not limited to:

  • Drawing/specification updates

  • Request for Information (RFIs)

  • Engineering/supplier submittals

  • Daily field reports

  • Meeting minutes

  • Change order requests

  • Testing instructions

  • Receive, inspect, and approve equipment/materials stored on and off site for payment as well as materials used in site construction against submittals and check and verify the installation of materials and equipment.

  • Oversee the execution of programs for testing materials and equipment and for the start-up of project systems.

  • Review and contractor monthly invoices based on milestone deliverables or progress complete.

  • Receive, inspect, and approve equipment to be installed on the project.

  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to

  • WSP's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.

  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

  • Physical /other Requirements:

  • Must be able to traverse and inspect all areas of jobsite in all types of weather; this may include walking, reaching, bending, or stretching.

  • Must be physically fit to perform project sites visits and walkthroughs for extended periods of time and long walks.

  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at a time.

  • May require travel.

  • Must be on-call to address delays, emergencies, bad weather, and other issues at the jobsite.

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma is required.

  • 11+ years of progressive related electric utility industry experience (4 years with applicable engineering degree), with transmission facilities construction management experience preferred

  • Microsoft Word and Microsoft Project or Equivalent.

  • Valid state driver's license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP's Motor Vehicle screening.

  • Must be willing to travel to construction sites on a day-to-day basis, attend meetings.

  • Well-defined knowledge of construction inspection principles, field inspection practices, process, methods, and techniques.

  • Well-defined knowledge of relevant construction codes, regulations, compliance practices, and record-keeping requirements.

  • Analytical mindset with an ability to exercise sound judgement in evaluating situations and making decisions.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally to a technical and non-technical audience.

  • Proficient self-leadership with attention to detail, accuracy, multi-tasking, and prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.

  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instruction, and comply with company policies.

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as part of a team to meet business objectives.

  • Proficient with technical writing, office automation, software, technology, math principles, spreadsheets, and tools.

  • Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from inspection and testing results, and data collation arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP's health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Ability to work schedules conducive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.

  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States or be able to obtain work authorized status in the United States prior to the start of employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering/Construction Management

  • Essential professional licensure/certification(s).

  • Journeyman Lineman or equivalent training though Labor Union or Utility training certification program.

  • Certified Utility Safety Professional

  • OSHA 30

  • Certified First Aid / CPR

  • Underground Transmission, Submarine Cable installation, and other relevant HV electrical and construction experience

  • Experience working in Railroad ROW

Compensation:

Expected Salary (all locations): $85,900 - $153,010

WSP USA is providing the compensation range that the company in good faith believes it might pay and offer for this position, based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities in addition to internal equity and specific geographic location. WSP USA reserves the right to ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and offer additional benefits and other compensation, depending on circumstances not related to an applicant's sex or other status protected by local, state, and/or federal law.
