NATURE OF WORK:
Performs responsible technical field inspection and office work enforcing national, state, and local codes governing the design, construction, and renovation of buildings, structures, wastewater treatment facilities and other public works' projects. Work involves inspection of buildings and structures, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical installations, and requires considerable knowledge of electrical, carpentry, plumbing, building construction, or mechanical field as well as in-depth knowledge of all applicable codes and ordinances. Employees assigned to this classification must exercise considerable initiative and independent judgment in the interpretation and application of codes in making technical decisions. Work is performed under general supervision, according to established guidelines, and performance is reviewed through reports submitted, meetings, and results obtained for technical sufficiency and consistent application.
Minimum Starting Salary:
Construction Inspector I -C: $24.48 - $31.21, per hour, depending on qualifications
Construction Inspector II-C: $25.85 to $32.96 per hour, depending on qualifications
Construction Inspector III-C: $27.46 to $35.01 per hour, depending on qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Associates Degree with construction related coursework in area of assignment.
Construction Inspector I C (Building): Minimum of five (5) years experience in building construction required or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (B.C.A.I.) as a Standard Inspector
Building, or must obtain a State of Florida Provisional Certification (Standard Inspector
Building) within 4 months of date of hire and must obtain Standard Certificate within one year. A valid Florida driver's license is required. Position requires background check which includes a polygraph.
Construction Inspector II- C(Building): Minimum of seven (7) to eight (8) years experience in building construction required or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience totaling seven (7) to eight (8) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (B.C.A.I.) as a Standard Inspector
Construction Inspector III-C (Building): Minimum of nine (9) years experience in building construction required or an equivalent combination of post-secondary education, training, and experience totaling nine (9) years. Must be certified by the Florida Building Code Administrators and Inspectors Board (B.C.A.I.) as a Standard Inspector
VALID DRIVER LICENSE FROM ANY STATE MUST BE PRESENTED AT TIME OF INTERVIEW. VALID FLORIDA DRIVER LICENSE MUST BE PRESENTED WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE.
