The Public Works Department of the City and County of Broomfield is seeking to hire one full-time, non-exempt Construction Inspector to join our team providing top quality services and high level customer service for our rapidly growing community.
Total Compensation Package
Salary Range: $29.94 - $40.50/hour

The incumbent performs technical inspection and analysis of public improvement work performed by private contractors. Working hours are typically Monday
Friday 7:30 a.m.
4:30 p.m. with overtime, Saturdays, and holidays as needed.
Essential Required Tasks/Examples of Duties
General Duties:
Conducts systematic inspections of all new and improved construction by private contractors of streets, storm drainage systems, water and sewer utility lines, and irrigation systems and landscaping to check for compliance with applicable City and County of Broomfield codes, standards, and specifications.
Ensures compliance and conformance to plans, specifications, and regulations including re-inspecting sites.
Reads, interprets, and reviews construction plans, grading plans, irrigation plans, landscaping plans, site plans, plats, maps, and other plans as required for assigned projects to look for potential problems.
Informs contractors and developers of codes, standards, and specifications and enforces as necessary to obtain corrective action.
Attends pre-construction meetings.
Ensures proper traffic safety procedures are used by contractor. Takes appropriate remedial action or submit recommendations for resolution. May issue warnings, stop work orders, and summonses.
Investigates and responds to complaints from the public relative to construction and seeks corrective action by the responsible party.
Communicates effectively with angry and/or distraught citizens, developers, or contractors and demonstrates effective communication skills while working with the public on problem-solving and mediation.
The majority of work in this position is performed at construction sites with subsequent exposure to a wide variety of potential safety hazards common to construction sites; e.g., heavy machinery, road traffic, heavy materials, etc. There is also exposure to a variety of outdoor weather conditions, fumes, airborne particles, and risk of electrical shock. Additionally, construction inspections involve a wide range of physical movements such as climbing into trenches/manholes and lifting heavy items such as manhole covers.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits and can perform the Essential Required Tasks.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: - Within one year of employment, the candidate must obtain the following certifications: Class I Water Distribution Certification, Class I Wastewater Collection Certification, CAPA Asphalt Inspectors Certification, and ACI Concrete Inspectors Certification. Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record for continued employment. New hires must, as a condition of employment, pass the following applicable pre-offer and post-offer/hire processes: written evaluation if required, oral interview, reference checks, background check including local police check and sex-offender registry check, and driving record check through DMV.
Working Conditions
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet in the office and moderate to loud in the field.
Travel by pickup truck is required to reach construction sites.
Physical demands are described as medium (exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects).
