As a Construction Inspector, you'll have the chance to provide inspection support for the construction of roadways and bridge related transportation projects located in the state of Iowa. Working with other members of the team, you'll perform a broad cross-section of complex technical and administrative activities requiring extensive experience and specialization in Contract Compliance, Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) inspection of transportation projects and related construction work. During our time with us you will also identify and document construction and/or QC deficiencies (from applicable contract/standard specifications); analyzing applicable codes, standards and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents; interpreting or clarifying contract documents for Contractors; maintaining or preparing a variety of records, including daily/weekly progress reports, material accounting records, change orders and record drawings; reviewing new projects for constructability, preparing monthly progress payment quantities/requests; performing and/or evaluating tests and inspections, and other methods of verification as specified; monitoring contractors' compliance with approved Quality Control Plan; making recommendations for improvements to standard construction QC provisions as they apply in the field; assuring compliance with approved submittals.   • High School diploma or GED

  • Proficient in reading contract plans and specifications

  • Experienced in use of computer and software similar to Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Doc Express

  • 10 years minimum experience with inspection or Apprentice/Journeyman experience in construction

  • Experience working a Department of Transportation agency and contractors

  • Experience documenting installation of work and contractor's performance

  • Experience with applicable codes

  • A valid State driver's license and ability to be insured by company policy

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • AA degree related to Engineering or Construction Management Program

  • Experience working with Iowa Department of Transportation and local contractors

  • Familiar with document control software such as Primavera Contract Manager

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work during either daytime or nighttime shifts, including weekends

Role Overview: Inspects product at all phases including; Incoming from suppliers, In-process checks, FIAR's, IOS updates and final inspection for conformity to ensure that quality and integrity of the material and assemblies are produced to meet drawing specification, tolerances, corporate procedures and customer requirements. May inspect product as a customer source or FAA delegate. Essential Responsibilities: * Prepare to inspect by interpreting blueprints, data, and manuals to determine specifications, inspections and testing procedures. * Review paperwork to ensure completion and accuracy of all documents including routers, flow card, First Articles, etc. * Inspect product to verify conformance to specification of the parts by measuring dimensions using instruments such as gages, calipers, comparators micrometers, etc. * Perform visual inspection on parts utilizing IOS books and PowerPoint slides (Source files) associated with the part to ensure produce conformance. * Create first piece sheets and perform first pieces for Operators by inspecting work in progress. * Create, update, and maintain IOS books and First articles. o Fill out paperwork (electronic and paper) such as turnback forms, inspection or test data, and entering all part transactions into SAP. * Fill out defective material forms (green sheets) and create Quality Notifies (QN's). * Train and assist less experienced peers and operators. * Actively participate in ACE activities and communicate with operations to problem solve and establish priorities. * Support and follow all rules/guidelines/standards set by EHS, Quality, and CI functions as set by your leader and position. * Over 40 hours per week as scheduled to meet business needs. * All other duties as assigned including working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business.
