As a Construction Inspector, you'll have the chance to provide inspection support for the construction of roadways and bridge related transportation projects located in the state of Iowa. Working with other members of the team, you'll perform a broad cross-section of complex technical and administrative activities requiring extensive experience and specialization in Contract Compliance, Quality Control (QC) and Quality Assurance (QA) inspection of transportation projects and related construction work. During our time with us you will also identify and document construction and/or QC deficiencies (from applicable contract/standard specifications); analyzing applicable codes, standards and project contract documents and monitors construction activities to ensure compliance with contract documents; interpreting or clarifying contract documents for Contractors; maintaining or preparing a variety of records, including daily/weekly progress reports, material accounting records, change orders and record drawings; reviewing new projects for constructability, preparing monthly progress payment quantities/requests; performing and/or evaluating tests and inspections, and other methods of verification as specified; monitoring contractors' compliance with approved Quality Control Plan; making recommendations for improvements to standard construction QC provisions as they apply in the field; assuring compliance with approved submittals.   • High School diploma or GED

  • Proficient in reading contract plans and specifications

  • Experienced in use of computer and software similar to Microsoft Office programs such as Word, Excel, Outlook and Doc Express

  • 10 years minimum experience with inspection or Apprentice/Journeyman experience in construction

  • Experience working a Department of Transportation agency and contractors

  • Experience documenting installation of work and contractor's performance

  • Experience with applicable codes

  • A valid State driver's license and ability to be insured by company policy

The ideal candidate will possess the following skills and experience:

  • AA degree related to Engineering or Construction Management Program

  • Experience working with Iowa Department of Transportation and local contractors

  • Familiar with document control software such as Primavera Contract Manager

  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task and work during either daytime or nighttime shifts, including weekends

Role Overview: * Inspects product incoming from suppliers, in-process, or final inspection for conformity to ensure the quality and integrity of the material and assemblies are produced to meet drawing specifications, tolerances, corporate procedures and customer requirements. * Assist quality engineer(s) in source inspection of produce. Assist quality engineer(s) in the creation and maintenance of quality system. * May act as an FAA delegate Essential Responsibilities: * May coordinate and manage shipment of final product. * Prepare to inspect by interpreting blueprints, data, and manuals to determine specifications, inspections and testing procedures. * Review paperwork to ensure completion and accuracy of all documents including routers, flow card, First Articles, etc. * Inspect product to verify conformance to specification of the parts by measuring dimensions using instruments such as gages, calipers, comparators micrometers, etc. * Work with Quality Engineers to approve source files and ensure that they are current as well as, assist in identifying required changes and updates, * Assist Quality Engineers in training of additional source inspectors. * Assist quality Engineers in conducting customer FAIR's in addition to assisting with corrective actions. * Oversee customer requirements audit system. * Develop and conduct IOS book and gage kit audits. * Coordinate and conduct training on gage use, gage calibrations and gage system software. * Assist in the training of new inspectors by coordination and conducting training of inspections on IOS book requirements, gage kit development, and annual gage reviews. * Perform visual inspection on parts utilizing IOS books and PowerPoint slides (Source files) associated with the part to ensure produce conformance. * Support and follow all rules/guidelines/standards set by EHS, Quality, and CI functions as set by your leader and position. * Over 40 hours per week as scheduled to meet business needs. * All other duties as assigned including working extended shifts/overtime as required by the business.
